The TV system they need is called PAL. I have an Emerson DVD player. When I put the DVD in a notice pops up on my TV screen that says the disc may not have a playback feature and I should eject it.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get the DVDs to work? I can give you additional information if necescary,

You need to get a dvd player that can read the PAL format. They can be found at most electronic stores.

Bring the disk with you, just in case the sales person isn't sure if the player will read it.

Good Luck!

Because of different release dates over the world, DVDs are split into regions and play different formats
Region 1 USA , NTSC format

Region 2 Europe, PAL format

Region 3 Asia, Pal Format

Hope that helps.

I think DVD's are made for regions. Sometimes when I am shopping on ebay I find some that say region 1 or region 2. The ones you bought may be for a different region. Check the package and see if it says the region and/or what kind of player it can be played on.

DVDs have region codes. You can only play ones that have your particular region code on them. There's a way to get around it if you have a computer with a dvd player, but I'm not sure what it is. you can look it up though.

DVDs in Asia are Zone 3, DVDs here are in Zone 1, so the DVD players here won't play the DVDs that are zone 3 since they are programmed to be playing zone 1 dvds. You can buy a O-zone player (All zone), that would play (in theory) all zone dvds.

Because your DVDs are under a different encoding system than we are. Those movies use PAL, which is the system in Europe, Asia, etc., whereas here we use NTSC. Check it out on Wikipedia.

they are formatted for asian players (region 5 or 6)
you need north american dvds (region 1)
try and sell them on ebay
or ask the seller to swap them back
they are useless unless you have an asian dvd player
or aspecial player that plays alltypes they are now avaiable
but not worth the hassle and cost
make sure before you buy that they are formatted for
REGION ONE
