Is there really a spray that will keep cats off of things? Cause we are temporarily in an apartment that we aren't suppose to have pets and my 6 month old kitten won't stay out of the window, off my table (I hate that), or off my counter tops (I really hate that!) Any suggestions other than repetative "NOs" and the squirt bottle? Sometimes I just want to beat him even though I know it isn't his fault he is curious! He is a cat!! Meow!!

Squeeze some lemon/orange fruit and wipe the juice on the places you don't want him to go, coz they hate the smell. It makes they're nose all funny, not painfully though.
You could grab him by the scruff of the neck coz thats what their mothers do when they don't want the going somewhere.
If you're really brave try hissing! It scares them, coz again their mums do it to tell them off when its unsafe. If all else fails then spray, but its a bit mean.

In all honesty, the only thing that's going to work for the table/counters is consistency. Taking him down and telling him "NO" firmly over and over and over and over and over..... And at 6 months, and a boy, he's probably "goofy" so he's not even listening to you at all. But, consistency and consequences do eventually work.
One thing about cats -- the more you spoil them, the better behaved cats they will become.
As far as the window, you're going to have to be more creative. I had this EXACT same problem. If he wants to be in the window, you're really not going to stop him. What you CAN do is rig up some things -- like get tinting for your windows and attach that -- the kind that makes it impossible for someone outside to see in. Or, tape rolls of paper to the window -- make up an excuse why. Maybe you're just eccentric??? The cat cant' see out, and will get less interested in the problematic windows. People can't see in through the paper. It doesn't look great, but it solves he problem. Basically, for the window - you have to block it off somehow. The rolls of paper (i.e. a good length of wrapping paper will usually reach far enough up a window to where the cat can't reach up over it and be seen, but still leave room at the top to let in light and where YOU can see out. This is also a good thing for apartments - ugly tho it is -- because taping it to the window does no damage -- you just wash off the tape-sticky once you take it down -- all done.

I feel for you. I moved into a building and THEN was told it was no-pets. Well, I wasn't getting rid of my pets, so I lied and hid them. New owners came in eventually, and we've shifted to no pets to ALL pets.

Oh yeah, and if you get caught -- "I'm petsitting for a sick friend" works pretty well, too.

It's so hard to train them. I have always used this method, just pick them up by the scruff (so they know you mean business) and tell them no. But, then you have to be home all the time. I have a friend that will leave mouse traps out, so they will snap if they touch them. I was always afraid this would end up with a broken leg or nose. They make a granulated repellent, but it stinks, I mean really stinks, so I don't even want it in the house, but it's worth a try. I wouldn't put it directly on anything though, I'd put some in a bowl and place it on the counter tops. Good luck

I have not had any luck with the sprays. However, I use the X-Mat and it works great. Just put it on the counter or wherever you don't want the cat to go and they will not stand on the mat. After a while, you probably won't have to use the mat because the cat will just not even try going up on the counter anymore because he or she will associate it with something they didn't like.

I bought my mats for Drs. Foster and Smith. Follow this link:

Good Luck!

I just got some thing from Petland and it is sticky tape. (like double sided tape) Doesn't hurt the cats or anything else and makes them stay away. It was like six or seven dollars and it hangs on the wall with the toys. I used it on my leather furniture and he stays away from it now. You can also try a scratching post.

Or if you get caught just say you are watching it for some one for a few days.

♥ they have sprays that say it will stop your pets from going on things or pottying on things.... I have four cats and two dogs and I can tell you none of that stuff works... so dont waste your money on them....you could always try asking your vet for suggestions, but if ur kitten is like my cats they will go whenever they damn well please! LOL! Good luck! :D ♥

I personally have not tried this, but I have heard that putting duct tape or packing tape (sticky side up) will discourage cats from jumping on those surfaces. If you put it on the areas where she is jumping, I think this will discourage her because my cats and my friend's cats HATE the sticky feel of tape or stickers or anything sticky. I hope that helps!

Yes, there is a spray, but I still haven't found it. I have a puppy and when he was little he would go under my bed and I would always be scared that one of my cats would be under there. But, I told him 'No' and placed him where he can go. I don't know if it would work the same with cats because my cats go where they please.
