The Bible Teaches That:

• We will “Repent or perish,”

• Repentance Is a Change of Mind that Results in a Change of State,

• That God Wants All to Repent and Be Saved, and

• Repentance Is a Part of God's Plan to Redeem Us
First, unless we repent, we will perish (be destroyed; go to hell). In Luke 13:1- 5 we read where Jesus was teaching those of His day that, “except you repent, ye shall... perish” (Luke 13:3 & 5).

recorded in Acts 2), we read where the inspired apostle Peter replied to those who asked what they had to do: “Repent and he baptized every one of you. ..for the remission of sins” (v. 38).

In the next chapter we find Peter, after healing the lame man, preaching to “Repent.. .and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19).

Repentance on any level is to recognize that you're moving in the wrong direction. There is an inner recognition that what you're doing is not really where you want to be, and that it could even be harmful. In salvation, one recognizes that there is more to life than what it appears to be, and in embracing that light one turns toward it, leaving behind anything that would quench it. The Baptist screamed out, "Repent! for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" He knew the King was coming, and where the King is you have the Kingdom. The true Light was making an appearance soon, and he wanted people to know that the spiritual dimension of God was about to be reopened! Get ready! he cried, don't miss it!

Belief in Jesus is primary. Once we believe and accept the Bible as God's authority and Jesus as our savior...

Repentance flows from that.

Repentance isn't listing all of my known sins and asking for forgiveness. Although, I do confess and apologize to God when I know I have sinned or fallen short...but I don't make lists ... If I did that, then I would be like Martin Luther and have to be in prayer for hours... we all would ...because we are still sinners.

Repentance is knowing that my natural ideas and ways most likely go contrary to what Christ wants for me. Repentance is denying my sinful self and desires daily and following Christ.

Repentance happens naturally and without effort on a true convert.

I do not view repentance as a "Work or good deed" on my part. I view repentance as proof or fruit of a true believer.

If someone is a true believer...they will have some type of fruit..and repentance is one of them.

Repentance is manditory for all Christians.

Unfortunately, there are people that do not truly repent. They appear in our church every Sunday, they have walked the isle, they have been through believer's baptism....they have "Done" what is necessary in our eyes to BE a Christian...yet they aren't.

Repentance come after true belief in God. If one doesn't truly believe...they can't truly repent.

Romans 3:23 For ALL have sinned and some short of the glory of GOD. That means you are a sinner, and you have no chance of going to Heaven. You must repent of your sins! Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved. You have to realize you are a sinner and repent to be saved. So, basically, repentance plays one of the biggest roles in salvation. The biggest role is realization that you are a sinner. Then repentance, then acceptance of Christ as your savior, then faith!

How do you get saved unless you know what your getting saved from which is sin. Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
So if sin is death what do I need to do to get life?
Acts 3:19
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
2 Corinthians 7:10
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
Repenting is confessing what you did and realizing and making a 180 degree change not because you have to but becasue you WANT TO!
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Repent basically means to "turn around".
Roman's 10:9-10 " If you confess Jesus is Lord, you shall be saved... For with the mouth you confess resulting in salvation, but with the heart you believe resulting in righteousness...
Romans 12:2 " Do not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of of your mind..
11Corinthians 5:17" If anyone is in Christ, Behold, he is a new creation, the old is dead, all things are new...

I could go on and on......

Salvation is when you confess Jesus as the Son of God and that you accept Him into your heart. If you read I John 3:11-24 it talks about loving one another. God knows that we will sin and backslide but if in your heart you desire to become more like Him and love be the motivation in your heart than He will honor that. Its not about the shoulda, coulda, woulda's or religion, God looks at your heart in yal's relationship. Repentance is like a renewing of your mind, your attitudes, your temper or anger issues, your impatience, pride, or anything that might get in the way of you being a better person. But guess what we will backslide and that is where His Grace comes in to wash that away and we get up and try again. As long as love is your motivation the rest will follow.

I was taught by my Evangelical Preaching Grandfather that repentance was necessary for forgiveness. If you are not repentant, your heart is not in the right place to receive forgiveness and salvation.

To NOT be repentent, is to say you've done no wrong, thus do not truely believe you need forgiveness or salvation.

Clear as mud?

Without repentance, there is no salvation. Luke 13 begins with exactly that, "Repent or perish".
