Because they have low self esteem so they lash out at others trying to make themselves feel better.

people are cruel because they have been brought up in such an environment. there parents make them see only the cruel side of the world and also continuous negative thinking makes them to think negatively which ultimately makes them self centered.if such people wake up early in the morning and think everything positive then there would also be changed. but this transformation will only happen after a few 10-15 days time you can try this by your self by thinking good and blessing the person who is an enemy of yours and you would see after some time that person is changed as well as you

I was bullied for years and then i met someone (a boy) and broke out my shell and make new friends and everything stoped. Then i relized that i was starting to be mean to people. I only did it because i like the feeling of power and control. Also i think that being a only child all my life may have contiruted to it. Always being the center of attention

It's easier to be cruel to people when you don't actually have to meet them face to face. ( IE: like on the Internet.) It's really easy to be self centered when you don't have much contact with others in "real life".
I know several people that practically live in their houses on their computers......

Janeroth, people in the US and Canada were not brought up as you were. They were not brought up to believe that all people are to be respected. They are influenced by the media and they are influenced by what others say. It is refreshing to see someone on here who feels compassion for those who are in need. If we are not here to help each other out, what are we here for? Keep posting these thought provoking questions and soon everyone will understand that this is what this site was meant to do, educate people, help people and guide people.

usually because they are insecure. they are self centered because they are so concerned about the impression they give other people and they are cruel to make themselves feel better and above others

its human nature to feel or act superior to things or people we feel are inferior to us. thats y majority of people have to work at being nice and being nice and kind to others is a learned trait.
