Well there are several reasons. One may be that there metabolism is slowing down. Another is that some people have problems with their thyroid glands which makes them gain weight. Some people can't afford to buy healthy food so they opt for the cheap high cal stuff. Some people are not privileged enough and don't have the free time that is required to go run 5 miles a day. You know why people are fat because society has made them that way. Another good question may be why is there such a horrible stigma on "fat" people? I mean who is nuttier the girl that pukes up everything she eats or starves herself to death or the girl that eats every meal? I mean come on. Just because a woman can't fit into a size six or lower does not mean she is fat, unhealthy, or unattractive. People got to eat. We are supposed to have curves.

You know, this is a good question! I think I am one of those very, very few people who believes this is a "disease". Give me a break. Why is this "disease" just now hitting us?? What about past generations? My parents' generation for instance? Even my generation for goodness sake? I'm 48 years old and have never been overweight (unless you count pregnancy, which at that point, is necessary). No one was fat when I was growing up. I remember one overweight girl in high school. Now, 1/2 the teens out there are fat. When I was growing up, there were no Nintendos, Playstations, remote controls, computers, cell phones, and cable. When I was little, we went OUTSIDE to play. Childrens' programing was Saturday mornings and after school. We weren't stuck in front of the boob tube playing mindless, intelligence-sucking video games. We were outside playing chase, tag, dodge ball, etc. We had P.E. everyday in high school. My mom cooked 3 squares everyday. I don't ever remember relying on fast food or junk food places for meals. These only happened on rare occasions when the family had an outing. We walked to school, hung laundry outside, played with the dog and our brothers and sisters. Today, none of that seems to be happening. We've lost our desire to move our bodies. It seems all we want to do is sit and eat, sit and watch a movie, sit and play a video game, sit and talk on the cell phone. Fast food places are popping up everywhere, feeding us more and more harmful stuff. And they've increased serving sizes. I remember my first job at 17 was at McDonalds. They had ONE size of fries. That's it. One. Now, they have like, 4 sizes! Small, large, extra-large and "oh my god" size. Anybody see "Supersize Me"? People are fat for two reasons: We eat too much and don't move at all. We've gotten lazy and complacent about our health and appearance. Now the FDA and the government has convinced us its a disease! Hey, we can't help being fat! Its in our genes! Poor us! Pop a pill, take medication! Now the FDA wants to control the medications doctors put us on! What a way to make money! Get a grip America. We're fat because we've become a gluttonous nation. And we're paying the price with diabetes, heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, and a number of other true "diseases", not to mention the stress put on your skeletal system. "FAT" is not a disease. Our country has just gotten lazy and is paying the price for it.

The human body was designed a long time ago before fast food and grocery stores. The body is designed to store food during plentiful time so during lean times the body could use the fat stores. When the body senses stress it starts to store fat for the lean times. The probelm today is that the stress the body senses isn't the kind from our past but a kind that doesn't need fat stored but the body doesn't know the difference. So it stores fat and thus more poeple are fat.
PLUS WE EAT JUST WAY TO MUCH!!!!!!!

Some people are fat because the probably used medication that caused them to gain weigth and the rest are fat because they eat more than their body can burn.
This is the only reason. Not because the have slow metabolism or the have busy lives. Because if you think about it there are other people who have slow metabolism, have busy lives or maybe have psycological problems but they are not fat.
These are just excuses to get and stay fat. Believe me. I used to be overweight and i was gaining weight not just drinking water but because i ate more and more. When i found the right way to lose my weight and i decided to do it i lost all my excess weight and never gain it back again.
Hope I helped

Maybe people aren't fat. Maybe you're too skinny.
There are far too many reasons why people are overweight. One is that in North America people eat too much junk food and not enough healthy food. This is a society that relies too much on fast food. Another answer could be a hormonal or thyroid problem. Another answer could be that someone is on a medication that causes weight gain.

because they're fat....what are they gonna do? they just gotta eat some more.
J/K I was wondering that too because I was watching TV and I could't believe how big this girl was and I told my Mom how come people allow themselves to get so fat and why won't they just stop eating and run? And 'my momma said' that some people are sick and they get fat, take medicine and get fat, some are born to be fat, and some are just too lazy to go on a diet and do exercise.
