I don't have a medical condition, but if something should happen to me, I don't want my parents to have the power to make the important decisions.

If you're actually concerned about it, then YES, you should have a will. However, you should know that regarding medical care, a will won't dictate what is done or not done to help you. You'll need a living will or advance directive for that, so that you have your wishes written down ahead of time. That way, you'll have made the important decisions for yourself and all you have to worry about is finding someone to advocate for your wishes.

That would be a living will? Yes. Everyone who has an interest about what happens when they are unable to make decisions should have this. I have signed my father's, as did his wife and my brother. He set forth his desires that we promised to uphold. It simplifies things for the family as well as gives you the right to decide for yourself. Otherwise, if you have a child or assets, you should see a lawyer for an estate will.

Then yes, you should have one.

BTW, if you do not have one, the state makes the decisions, not your parents. At least in the US.

Make sure you keep it updated though. The person you allow to make the decision now may not be the person you want to have make it in 5 years...

It wouldn't hurt to have a will regardless of age, especially if you have kids or property that you would like dispersed properly. You should have the say of what is important to you. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone.

You're never too young to take care of your "final arrangements". We all have to die someday, some sooner than others. Don't think that just because you're young and healthy, nothing can happen to you...look at Terri Schiavo. It's not pleasant to deal with, but it will definitely give you peace of mind.

you may certainly want to contact your local physician or hospital to complete a living will...this prevents anyone from ressucitating or keeping you on life support should you decide that is not what you want....a regular will?...i had one drawn up shortly before the birth of my first child so that arrangements could be made for him upon my death (single mom),,,,if no children or assets are involved you wont necessarily need one

YES! yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes! you need to have your wishes carried out. if not some states can take a large percentage of your estate, it is called a Death tax, . and I have seen families that were very close go back on their word when the loved one died, Greed makes even close families act strange, if you have a will you will save your family alot of pain and guessing. Go get one, they are not expensive.

you can have a will at any age, anything can happen beyond your control, if you have things you want other people to deal with other than your parents then you have to specify that in a will, & have it notoriced by a lawer.
