The most certain piece of evidence that something is wrong is when it needs to be propped up by a claim of infallibility.

Who cares? Why is either question relevant at all?

If the Pope's infallible, great. Hope he does lots of productive stuff to help the world spiritually. If he's not, oh well. Then he's just another Joe like the rest of us. But he still might do some good things. Either way, what decisions are YOU personally going to make differently based on his infallibility or lack thereof?

As for the Bible, if it's infallible, it doesn't matter; you are still flawed, and you're going to interpret it wrong. Even if your interpretation is supplied to you by an infallible Pope, your ears are still human. You will only listen to the parts of the interpretation that conform to your preconceived notions, and disregard the rest. Don't shake your head at me. That's how the fallible human brain works.

You can't discern infallibility as a fallible human. All you need to know is that any information you take in with your murky five senses and process with your flawed mind will be imperfect, even if the original was infallible.

Technically speaking, Catholic teaching does not state that the Pope is infallible. Also, infallibility, theologically speaking, is not inerrancy, which you likely mean.

Infallibility, is the power of God, exercised by the People of God, to correctly profess true believe as handed down by the apostles. Papal infallibility is the exercise of that by the Roman Bishop, in union with all other bishops and with the agreement with the sense of the faithful, of that profession provided that it is no different than the historical professions of faith.

In other words, the Pope can infallibly repeat what was already believed and has always been believed. Of course, so can you. Simple say, Jesus Christ is the Son of God and you have done it.

It is a meaningless doctrine largely within Catholicism. Its importance is to Protestants.

So is the Pope infallible, no. Is the bible infallible, no.

Can the Church proclaim a belief infallibly, that seems to be the historical consensus.

Are either inerrant, clearly not.

It is the Truth which is infallible. The bible and the rest of Apostolic Tradition is the human profession of that truth in all of our limited ways.

Any living, breathing person is falliable. Thank God for that, so we are all on equal footing with each other (no matter what others try to convince you of).

The Holy Scriptures (ie Bible) however, is infalliable in my opinion. Why do I believe this? Because Almighty God who so loved the world, would never have let such a document, which has proven the test of time, to have errors for those who look for Him.
Wikipedia says, "The Bible is the most widely distributed book in the world. Both Hebrew Scripture and the Christian Bible have been translated more times and into more languages — more than 2,100 languages in all — than any other book. It is said that more than five billion copies of the Bible have been sold since 1815, making it the best-selling book of all-time. In some cities, the Bible is considered to be the most frequently stolen book. "

+ The Pope +

The Catholic Church teaches that the Pope is infallible at closely defined times.

The Pope is only infallible when he, in union with the body of bishops, solemnly teaches that a doctrine as true.

This comes from the words of Jesus to Peter (the first Pope) and the Apostles (the first bishops), "Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven" (Matthew 18:18) and "He who hears you hears me" (Luke 10:16).

+ The Bible +

The Catholic Church teaches that the Bible teaches (infallible) religious truth but not necessarily historical fact.

With love in Christ.

The pope is just a human being, and the bible says that "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23).

The Bible, on the other hand, is completely infallible, since it is the word of God, who is perfect. As far as the "fallibility" of the Bible goes, I have yet to hear a contradiction in the Bible that is any more than its opponents twisting words to serve their own aims.

The bible was written by men/normal human beings. Whats more , the Roman ruler Constantine CHOSE which gospels would make up the bible (which many people take as the absolute TRUTH), from HUNDREDS (probably even THOUSANDS) of gospels These gospels were written and submitted by many different people.

Since the bible was written by MAN, and MAN is DEFINITELY FALLIBLE, the bible is therefore COMPLETELY FALLIBLE.

The POPE is an ordinary man. An ordinary man who some think has FAR TOO MUCH POWER. So he is therefore DEFINITELY FALLIBLE. How can he not be? Do u believe that he is superhuman, or beyond the normal fallibility's of ordinary men?

I hope not.

the pope is not infallible, that is not a biblical teaching
man will always be fallible, God will never be

the source of all christian teaching comes from the bible
if the bible was infallible, people would still choose to reject it, so there is no point to go and try to prove it

For centuries Mary Magdalene was thought of as an adulteress; although, the bible doesn't say such. But people were, instead, following Pope Gregory.

Popes have supported crusades where merciless slaughters took place. They have supported the Inquisition where sadistic torture was inflicted.
