one source ws from the former soviet union...after that fell apart many former soviet officials started peddling off their stuff like a yard sale on the black market. I would guess a lot comes to them through Syria who gets them from russia and china. You are right Jennifer. There are international arms dealers who don't care who they sell to...some have lived right here in the U.S. In wwII there were people who were American citizens who actually sold equipment to Hitler. I'm sure it continues and that is a disgrace.

Any number of places. Back when they were the Muhjadeen, fighting against the Soviets in Afghanistan, they were supplied munitions by the US. Now that they are Al Queada, waging war against Western civilization, they're likely receiving weapons from Syria, Iran, Pakistan, and any other country or group that sympathizes with their cause.

Primarily the insurgents are supplied with munitions and firearms leftover from Saddam's regime. There are a great many AKs over here. They are also supplied financially and with logistics from neighboring sympathetic Muslim countries, Saudi included. Iran and Syria have a huge stake in the outcome of Iraq and support cells which will help in achieving their aims. Unfortunately, we helped Iraq in fighting their 8 year war with Iran and we are encountering artillery and rocket rounds from the US, the UK, S. Africa, Germany, France and Russia. The ASP (ammo supply point) we are currently clearing is full of equipment from Jordon.

Iraq is nothing but a huge ammunition dump. Saddam dispersed ammunition stockpiles everywhere and didn't bother to keep track of their locations.
