The reality is, if you need it everyday, you have a drinking problem. You should go to AA or go to re-hab if you can. Alcoholism will eventually ruin your life..and it's not worth it. Get help for yourself and for those who love and depend on you. You just have to be ready.

I just finished up my stint of drinking 5-6 times a week, starting at 8:00pm and drinking to 2:00am doing computer stuff. I've been doing this basically for years. Diet Coke and Rum were my choice, or maybe whiskey. Maybe a Saturday was 10 "Ice" beers.
But after I 'stopped' drinking for a week, I thought I'd celebrate, so I drank one of my usual evenings. With some other medications I had started taking, - I had a horrible hang-over for a day and a half.
I made another "mistake" 2 weeks after that, - and the same story. It's been 4 months and I really don't drink. Maybe a couple of beers... but that's about it. Just the thought of a hang-over and going back into the ditch is enough to avoid it. Besides, I drank alone, so it's not like I was going to the bar, or have a lot of friends doing it.
My health, head are better and now I don't avoid interacting with people. Folks say I've changed, -but I don't tell them how or why they'd think that. With spring and summer her, I'm walking about 4 times a week. Maybe 6 miles each.
Do what you have to, - either AA or no-AA, but realize that your life would and could be better, without wasting the time with the bottle.
You can figure out a way to contact me if you want.

Who said you have to go to AA? If it's a judge, you can sign your own slips, just use a different pen every other day. :) Nobody actually calls people in AA to check.
Remember, all AA offers is profound self awareness and a glimpse of "how things really are", not necessarily how you see it. This is pretty radical and painful but does offer a "way out" of self-delusion, which you probably are afflicted with.
So, if you can quit without AA or God, do it. If, when you exhaust all other options, then consider AA or God...but not a minute sooner. Its only ONE approach to sobriety. It does works well only if you have an open mind and no other options. :) A good *** whooping helps also.
Cheers!

Replace drinking with another behavior. You can't just say I am going to stop drinking and sit there. You'll still think about it. I suggest taking up a sport or finding a hobby. Make sure that you are busy at the normal drinking times. You may even need to call on friends and family to help you if you don't want to go to AA. Good Luck!

Just someone saying they want to lose weight but still pigging out on pizza.
If you quit, it will be YOU AND YOU ALONE who make it happen...no magic bullets, no magic spells, just make it happen. Start by saying no to yourself every other day, now you are down to half and that was easy.
You know where I'm going with this...as they say, the first step is admitting that you have a problem. The fact that you don't want AA is proof that you have not yet recognized this and are still living in denial.

you have to start by just cutting back. this sounds horrible, but you can mix water into the liquer. if you're drunk already, you wont even notice it and it will cut down on how much you're drinking. try to drink a lot of water in general, it will make you too full to want to drink alcohol. but its really a process of small steps and wanting to stop drinking. a good friend of mine is going thru this same thing right now. she goes thru a handle of vodka and a handle of SoCo ever day. its scarey. but we just have to help her and keep her too preoccupied to know she's not drinking. professional help is good too. there is medication that will make you not WANT to drink, but if you do drink while taking some of them it could be very serious.

For one night, and only one night, drink as much as you possibly can. You still must be able to walk(this is important). At the end of your drinking session, walk out of your house onto a busy street and get hit by a drunk driver. You will stop drinking for good.

You need to go to AA. Why don't you want to go? Ask yourself which you want more - to stop drinking or to avoid going to AA. I would also advise pastoral counseling around whatever your issue is that prevents you from wanting to go to AA.

Dont ever stop drinking. Booze is the greatest thing ever created. I cant imagine why any one would want to stop. Maybe cut back a little bit but not stop. I love booze.

I know you don't want to, but your best bet is AA or some other group that will provide support through this tough road.
