Do you have have a dental college in your area. They might permit you to be treated by a student dentist.I know that the community college in our area has people who are treated by student dental hygenists and dental assistants. The treatment is supervised by professionals and the cost is reasonable. Maybe welfare will help you with this(or be able to direct you to someone who can. or maybe social security can be of help.

See if there's a dental school in your area. It's much cheaper than going to a dentist, and the quality of the work is usually just as good.

You could go up to the dentists office and have a quiet word with the receptionist. Ask to see the dentist for a chat. If you explain that you can't afford it, and you are being upfront about it and you tell them you are in great pain but you realize you can't afford it. Human compassion SHOULD kick in and they'll reduce their rates. Its happened to several people I know. Might not work in a larger city. You might also ask the Medicaid office if you are in the USA
Don't sit and suffer. You have nothing to lose but the pain by asking. Best of luck.

contact your local welfare office. they have health and dental plans available for low income people. if it's an emergency, find a clinic that offers payment plans. when you get the bill, the government might be able to reimburse you based on your income.
