When the earth formed according to science there was no water. Where did it come from?

It is highly unlikely that comets gave us water. The chemical composition of the water in comets is too different then the composition of the water on earth. At least that is what current scientific theory states

When the earth was first formed, there was a lot of hydrogen (the most common element in the universe). Because of the chemical make up of the earth at the time, all the oxygen that was either there or produced by chemical reactions in the rocks combined with the hydrogen to form water.

Initially this would have been in gaseous form, but as the earth cooled it condensed to form the oceans.

I don't really see how this is a religious question.

Actually from ice comets bombarding earth for millions of its early years ... there was initially no water on the molten planet but as the crust cooled ice by the cometfull rained down on it and that is where all of the water on earth today came from.

Pretty amazing to think about .. isn't it?

Hydrogen and Oxygen. Why?

Both elements are pretty abundant in space. Comets are made of ice, planets are made of ice, moons are made of ice. The stuff is everywhere, not just on Earth.

there is a lot of ice boulders floating in space, so probably meteorites have fallen on earth in the very early stages of it's developement and turned to steam. In millions of years that followed, the steam and more ice slowly condensed/melted into water.

Water came from the condensation of water vapor, which was created by the combination of the hydrogen and oxygen elements.
