I have been working out for 3 months now. I look in the mirror and I see muscle tone on my arms and abs, but when I look at my body without using the mirror I see flab. So who is deceiving me, my eyes or the mirror?

The mirror is an inanimate object so obviously it can not lie. Your eyes are the culprit here. The question you have to ask yourself now is whether your eyes are lying to you when you look in the mirror or when you look at yourself. You could easily be doing either one of the two. You could be seeing what you want to look like in the mirror. You could have low self-esteem and be seeing fat that really isn't there when you look at your body. Just keep working out and don't look at yourself so much. A common problem when people work out is that they look at themselves constantly so never really see the change since it is so miniscule on a day to day basis. Stay away from the mirror for 2-4 weeks and then look at yourself. You will notice the change more then.

lol what are these people talking about...this is hillarious...looking in the mirror is what you want yourself to look like?? haha!

ok now to your question. i actually notice this as well and i think it's just the point of view from where you are looking. it can also affect the way the light shines down on your body...so from a certain view point, the light shines and it brings out your muscle definition because of the shadows....if you know what i mean. it's kind of hard to explain....

anyways, if you can see some tone in the mirror but not if you look directly at your abs/arms, i think you're getting closer. but, eventually, if you really have a 6 pack, you should be able to see it w/o a mirror too.

the mirror only show you what there really is just like a picture it can only show you what there really is. don't stress keep working out and maybe stop looking into the mirror for a few weeks and examine your body in 4 weeks and see what happened.

the Mirror NEVER lies, unfortunately for some of us, but your mind will play tricks. you will see yourself how your were because thats what you were use to seeing... keep up the work and soon your mind will catch up with the mirror image you see before you now.

sometimes my fat takes the shape of a muscle, hard to explain it's like I have some fat over my ribs but you can still see where my ribs are, it's like that but with muscle, you can see that I have abs but there is a little layer of fat over it so when I look down at it I still see the fat

Your eyes. You have a bad self image. It is just like when anorexics look at themselves and see fat even though they are a rack of bones.
