Iraq-- - Five U.S. Army soldiers are being investigated for allegedly raping a young woman, then killing her and three members of her family in Iraq, a U.S. military official said Friday.

The soldiers also allegedly burned the body of the woman they are accused of assaulting in the March incident, the official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.

The U.S. command issued a sparse statement, saying Maj. Gen. James D. Thurman, commander of coalition troops in Baghdad, had ordered a criminal investigation into the alleged killing of a family of four in Mahmoudiyah, south of Baghdad. The statement had no other details.

The case represents the latest allegations against U.S. soldiers stemming from the deaths of Iraqis. At least 14 U.S. troops have been convicted.

The United States also is investigating allegations that two dozen unarmed Iraqi civilians were killed by U.S. Marines in Iraq last Nov 05.

Let me guess, you have never served in the military, right? Just a wild guess. Hey, I have a great idea - lets focus on the actions of five immorral a$$holes and ignore the actions of the hundred thousand other soldier, sailors, airmen and marines that are putting their lives on the line on a daily basis fighting an enemy overseas so that there would be no more attacks within our borders. You are absolutely right, what they did is wrong - but do not lump the majority of our military in with them. Most of us would rather not be fighting, but we believe that good will come of this if we stay the course. Do not be so quick to forget that the reason there has not been another attack like 9/11 is that the terrorists are now engaged in warfare with our troops outside of our borders. Just like the communist nations, if we can establish one success story in the middle east, then many more Muslim Fundamentalist states will topple like dominoes.
Or we can just run away, and justify the actions of the terrorists - ensuring that we will be fighting the same war in some different location many years in the future.

I find that our soldiers are fighting an impossible war. Apart from the hand to hand fight with the Iraqis they have to face the adverse critism of the rest of the world as well. They have hardly any comrades and of the few some have already left. The reasons for declaration of war were also unconvinsing.

It is a tribute to our soldiers that despite all this they have fought and are still fighting against sudden attacks. They did the same in the last Vietnam was-a war which was condemned all over the world. The tremendous pressure under which they must be working can only be imagined. It is a tribute to their steadfastness that not any one of them withdrew for reasons of alleged conscience eventhough they would have been justified.I salute them for that.
Of course contary to the saying really everything is unfair in a war.Under the strain they are working there is little wonder if some of them are brutalised. By all means condemn them. But ,albeit secretly, shed a tear for them who had been sent to fight and they have not questioned why but are ready to do and die.

Let's see how many American soldiers, marines, sailors adn Air Force people are there?

So you want to comdemn them all based on the Alleged actions of a few. Are you proud of the kids in this country that bring guns to school, are you proud of the gang members.

Do you comdemn all kids because of a few?

99.9% of the Americans there are good, honorable people. Yes I am proud of them.

When was the last time you put your sorry a** on the line for someone else?

Listen, I know what you're saying about these atrocities-- and they're nothing short of atrocious-- but it's a very small few in relation to the tens of thousands who are doing what's right.

The sacrifice they make alone is more than enough to earn my respect. It's not just a job, or something to do-- they enlist knowing that they may die for their country (possibly an unappreciative country), for a cause that's not necessarily their own... and they do it for paltry compensation. Somebody has to do it, and they choose to do it, and it is a great thing.

Please don't hate on the countless individuals doing right by us because of the few the media like to exploit. Remember, they're run by advertisers, ratings, and (unfortunately) no one's tuning in to news programs illustrating the virtues of the soldier's sacrifice. Those heads on the news don't represent our armed forces.

These people are not Soldiers. They are disgusting animals who have no place in Society let alone in a position where they are expected to 'Serve'. Anyone who can claim to be 'proud' of these individuals is as uncivilised, sick and dehumanised as they are. If they had been under my husband's command in Iraq they would have been Court Martialled and sent to a civilian Gaol before their feet touched the ground.

Yes I am. You can't let a few allegations of abuse color your opinion of the armed forces as a whole. That would be like saying that because the unibomber had a P.H.D. that all P.H.D. holders are going to send bombs through the mail. As a group our military does more good than bad and if you don't believe that then I feel bad for you.

I don't know about you, but I am damn proud of the army and the rest of the troops who are fighting this war. I understand there are bad things that happen and I am not condoning those actions, but I don't think that makes the entire army a bad group. I personally am grateful that there are people who are willing to sacrifice their lives for their country and the people of their country. I think it is the ultimate act of unselfishness and I think more Americans should show their appreciation!

You can't generalize the supposed action of a few to refer to the army as a whole, although that may not have been your intention.I personally think, and I may sound cruel, but I think if they did what they supposedlly did to those people, they should have the same thing happen to them. And yes I am PROUD of our military.I am not proud however that we must sometimes use it,and sometimes it is sometimes necessary, because nearly everytime we us it it means another persons life ends. And whether it be enemy or ally,a persons life is a persons life.

Of course I am. You cannot judge the entire Army over the actions of a few soldiers.
