well you can always go to a beauty school so they can practice on you and pay $5 for it.

I thought the average was above £30!
But think about the years your stylist has spent in training. Also the cost of upkeep of the salon, all the products used.
A good stylist will have a natural ability to cut your hair well and in a style that suits you. You are paying for that talent, as well as the experience, training and time.
How much would you charge?

Because of the amount of time it takes. It takes longer to cut and blowdry womens hair than mens. Usually they have different prices for different hair lengths. I don't think £25 is alot. My last cut & blowdry was £50. You get what you pay for.

What I don´t get is why people are willing to PAY so much. There are cheaper choices like the ones they already gave you or SuperCuts. Most of the time, they will do just as good a job and you will spend less money!

Because your paying for the name of the place you got it done and for the experience the person has, so an apprentice of a yr's work would be cheap and a person of 35 yrs experience would be more expensive as more people would know about the person that cut it, its the same with tattooists.

Rents for the premises, staff wages, electrcity - those hairdriers get hot, hot, hot! Find out how much the rents are on the high street and divide it up into segments. It all adds up!
If you want a cheapie, look in the ads. Often you'll find mobile hairdressers who don't have the same overheads.

You must be getting a lot of extra stuff done when you go and get your hair cut. If not, you are going to a VERY fancy place. They living the life of a normal person, and not the "Rich & Famous", and go get your hair cut at Wal-Mart.

I think it it's so steep because the stylists feel you should pay them more money because they attended school which probaby cost them a bundle so they feel they need/deserve to get that investment back from you the customer.

Because these days people are obsessed with aesthetics and outer appearance rather than the content of their minds. Everything is taken at face value because its easier to do that than to think about things.
In short, because people will pay it.

Don't go to a fancy fancy ritsy salon, go to somewhere that's cheaper but still nice. Hair cuts don't ALwaYS have to be expensive. GOOD LUCK! Luv~Carly
