It was a very sad moment. His name was spud and he was 13 years old. His back legs quit working the day before and he couldn't get to his food or even go to the bathroom. I know it was the best thing for him but does anyone have some advice on how I can get over the loss of one pets?

I'M SO SORRY ABOUT SPUD. LOSING A PET IS JUST AS HARD AS LOSING A LOVED ONE. BUT HE IS BETTER OFF. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CRUEL TO LET HIM LINGER LIKE THAT. GOD BLESS. I HAD A 9 YEAR OLD CAT.( MY BEST BUD!) WAS HIT BY A CAR. 2 WEEKS LATER I ADOPTED A NEW KITTEN. IT REALLY HELPED!

I am a big pet lover. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats. My 3rd cat died on new years eve this year. He was my baby. He was 16 and the best kitty in the world. My Boston Terrier died 2 years ago on Memorial day and antoher kitty died on Halloween 3 years ago... I am now afraid of Holidays! I still ache when I think about my boys. I miss them so much. Iknow that each one was a stray of some sort and I comfort myself with the knowledge that I gave them a great life and that they were loved. Eventually time will pass and you will feel ready to get another. You can not replace a pet, but you can try to fill some of the void with love for another. Check out your local animal shelter and make a difference in the life of an unwanted pet. It will help ease the pain and also help you feel better.

I'm sorry for your loss. I had to do the same for my German Shepherd. I knew she was sick and I had to have her put down. It's been 5 years now. I still look for her at times. All I can say the four letter word "Time". Know that you did the best for Spud. The one thing I hold dear to my heart is knowing I did what was best for her.
Try and get another pet. It took me awhile. I ended up with a parakeet.

First of all, I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds to me that you did the right thing. When grief comes to you, pls just rem. that you did what was best for your pet other than what you wanted. It just takes time to get over the loss. I wish I could say something to make it easier...but like I said, it just takes time. Sometimes the best thing you can do is get another pet soon as possible. I know you can't replace your best buddy, but you could give a good home to a potential best buddy :-)...they're so many dogs out there waiting to be adopted.

I had to put my little dog daisy down on July 4, 2000. It was heart breaking and gut wrenching. We just finally got a new little dog in nov. I like him a lot, but I still miss daisy. It will take a lot of time, you'll just get to a point where you wake up & it's not the first though you have, it's the fifth. Then pretty soon, it moves further down the list until you get to where you don't think about it during the day at all and the only time you do is when your answering questions on yahoo answers. It will get easier- I promise. Until then, my heart and prayers go out to you and your little one. May he rest in peace.

I'm soooo... SORRY I had a dog about 6 years ago that I had to put to sleep and It is still hard when I think about her from time to time. I know that you will NEVER be able to replace the love that you had for him but I suggest getting another dog. Because dogs have unconditional love and the love the new dog gives you might help out with pain you are going through. Again I'm VERY SORRY:( And good luck :)

I'm sorry for your loss. There's no set amount of time before you stop mourning everybody is differant. you'll gradually stop to thinking sadly about the pet , and remember the funny things. Don't run right out and get another pet until you hit this phase , and don't expect to ever find the same one.Theyr'e like humans each one is differant.

I am so sorry for your loss. There are pet loss support groups, we have one in our town. Ask your vet or check out www.petloss.com they have a list of groups by state. Take consolation in the fact that you did what was best for Spud so he did not suffer.

You'll never get over it, you'll just start to feel better and be able to think of your pet with a smile instead of tears. Going through the grieving process is expected with the loss of a pet, after all, they were one of the family. Whatever you do, don't try to find another dog to replace him.

It's difficult, but it will get better

I know it's cliche but time heals. You just need to give yourself time and know it's ok to be sad.
We had to out my dog to sleep because his bag legs gave out as well(amomg other things) and it was heartbreaking.
But in time, I was ok. Pets become your family and it is a huge loss and a part of yourself you lose too.
Maybe getting another pet would help and don't rush that if you feel it's too soon.
Good luck...wish you the best
