and I still have some swelling in my jaw. I had drysockets, and they had to pack my gums....ouch! It seemed to help for a few days, but now everytime I start to eat it just flames up and hurts so badly that I can't even finish my meals! Is this normal? I really HATE going to the dentist, but is it worth something to look into, or will it pass?

two months? egad!! if I were you I'd do whatever it takes to get better! if you're a smoker quit smoking, eat liquid meals (yogurt, jello, slimfast shakes) so you don't have to chew, drink lots of water... don't use a straw and no smoking because the sucking action is what causes and aggravates dry socket... ask your dentist if you should use an antiseptic mouthwash... good luck, I hope you get better!

Here is what webmd.com says about dry socket:
"Dry socket. Dry socket is a common complication that occurs when either a blood clot has failed to form in the extracted tooth socket or else the blood clot that did form has been dislodged. Without clot formation, healing will be delayed. When it happens, dry socket typically occurs 3 or 4 days following the extraction and is accompanied by pain (ranging from "dull" to moderate to severe) and a foul mouth odor. Your dentist or oral surgeon will treat the dry socket by placing a medicated dressing in the socket. Dressing will need to be removed and replaced every 24 hours until symptoms subside."

This isnt normal. Wisdom teeth would probably be okay just to be left there, if it continues in the next couple of days, you should see a dentist. In the meantime try eating soft foods.

ive had some probs with mine too

my dentist said that it is possible that a piece of the tooth may have broken off in the gum while it was being removed

or sometimes food gets trapped in the "scar" thing and the gum could get infected

so my guess is to go and get it checked out (x-rays if needed)

I had a painful dry-socket too. After they packed it, it felt better immediately. Maybe you need another type of antibiotic. Don't hesitate. If you go back to the dentist, they will only help you and try to take away the pain.

Sounds like it could be an abscess. You need to see a dentist or a doctor or maybe both. Don't let this go, or you could have major, major complications.

It definitely should've healed by now and no there shouldn't be any holes. Go back to your dentist asap!

Look into it. Try a warm salt water rinse every day. It sounds weird, but I promise it helps. Especially if you have dry socket, you need water, water, water.

Please go to a doctor a.s.a.p. your condition is not normal. you may have infection and inflammation.
the jaw is too close to sinuses and your brain to fool around.
Good luck.
