1200 calories a day will not help you lose weight
your body will be in starvation mode and actually keep weight on--and make it harder to lose

you want to eat at least 1500-1800 in order to be efficient in weight loss.

the most your body can lose in one week is 1-2 lbs of fat--equivalent to 3500-7000 calories respectively
since 1 lb of fat = 3500 calories, a person would have to eat 500 calories less per day or burn 500 more per day in order to lose one lb of fat in a week

it's healthy to lose 4-8 lbs of fat per month--10 lbs is pushing it a little, but it is humanly possible, given your exercise plans and weight lifting is consistent and efficient

keep in mind you want to do cardiovascular activity such as walking AFTER you lift weights for pure fat burn

good luck

Weighing 180 you need about 2000 calories a day to maintain. If you are eating 1200 calories per day you are deficiting by 800 a day or about 24000 per month. This will give you a 6-7 lb weight loss. The walking will give you about 275 calories per day of calorie use. This will be another 2 lbs.

So if your scales shows a 10 lb weight loss on this program after one month you have lost some fluid weight.

I suggest speeding up your walk a bit, eating a few more high quality calories (complex carbs, protein - preferable soy) and extending your expectation to 2-3 months rather than one.

I would think so. Walk up some hills to, if you are on a tread mill definitely raise the incline. It burns more calories and helps tighten a little extra. I think every one is different when it comes to calorie intake, I am only 5 foot and If I eat 1200 calories a day i start to slowly put a little weight on. So I have to keep it right around 1000. I also do aerobics 4 days a week and walk 3 days a week.

You can lose as much weight as you desire.

But you are not highly over weight.

You are already doing good with your health except for 1200 calories.

Any way follow some tips to work for entire of your life.

Good luck.

People go for losing weight by pills or starving.

Pills do not act effectively and for longer durations. Pills have many side effects for your health.

Starving weakens you and your defense system is also weakened. This makes you less resistant against infactions and other diseases.

The best way is to lose weight by change of diet and your physical activities.

1. Reduce or stop to take oils and fats.
2. Stop taking sugar and glucose. (Mainly tea, coffee & cold drinks.
3. Stop taking chocklates, sweets, cold drinks, potato, rice.
4. Reduce wheat and corn as much as possible.
5. Stop taking food very frequently.
6. Take food only thrice a day.

Take vegitables, boiled meat, fruits (even sweet).

And at the top of all:

Walk with a more speed at least 40 to 60 minutes twice a day in addition to your weight lifting.

You will start losing weight.

For people trying to lose a lot of weight (e.g. for health reasons), they usually recommend a maximum weight loss of 2 pounds per week (which, of course, would be abt 8 pounds per month). Of course, the first 10 pounds are the easiest to burn, so many people may see 2 pounds per week for the first month or two and then less.

That being said, the general "formula" to use to calculate how fast you can lose is that 1 pound = reduction of 3,500 calories. Note: if you are at a stable weight right now, that means somehow burning 3,500 more than you do now...through combo of eating less and burning more via exercise. So, if you are currently consuming 2,000 calories and reduce to 1,200 (which by the way sounds very low for someone your height), that would be 800 calories per day (or 5,600 per week...1.6 pounds per week). Then, regarding the exercise, you can add that to the calorie reduction...but, it's important that it's incremental to what you have been doing.

To get calories burned per hour at that rate, I'd look at your treadmill (or go to 1 in a gym or "test drive" one in Sears or something). It will tell you calories burned per hour for your weight (and sometime by age, too). My ball park guess is that it would be around 200-250 calories per hour.

Good luck!

Most definitely! You may actually lose more. If you feel tired all the time, try boosting the calories up to 1500 per day and you will still lose.

Yes, you can, but I think 1200 is too few calories for someone to consume. A 2000 calorie diet is recommended for everyone.
