I would agree with SherryK . The lack of structure in Montessori often causes children to lag in their reading development. The skills necessary to learn to read are developed in grades K-3 these are the formative grades in learning to read. If certain skills aren't mastered by third grade children struggle there after.

k-3 you are learning to read, 4 and up you are reading to learn.

If you do decide on Montessori I would strongly recommend that you work on reading at home to be sure your son is learning to read and making those important milestones.

It's okay at his age, but I HIGHLY discourage any Montessori education prior to entering the public school system. They are not prepared for the curriculum or the structure of a classroom setting. Every student that I have had from a Montessori Kinder or Grade 1-2 program couldn't read or work without assistance or one-on-one teaching. Many have to be put back into the previous grade level.
