your puppy is probably teething. I suggest you scatter toys around the house to bring attention away from chewing things you don't want. Don't give his cheap plastic toys though, most dogs have plastic allergy and it will wear out the color in your dog's nose, as well as the paint might irritate him. Another suggestion I have are the chew strips you can find, unlike rawhide these are 100% digestable, and they clear up to 70% of your dog's tartar. Hope that helps

The keys to this are really basic but that doesn't mean that training your puppy will be easy!

To start, decide what things are okay for your pup to chew on and be strict about it. Making exceptions to the rules and "just this once"'s will only confuse and frustrate your pup. Sticking to your guns about only letting your puppy chew on his toys will help immensely.

Of course, your pup is bound to go after other items. When he does try the distract and trade. When your puppy is gnawing on the coffee table leg or a shoe distract him by calling his name (praise madly when he looks up at you, this is enforcing recall which is another important bit of training) and trade a favorite toy for the undesirable item. You can also teach "Leave it" in these situations too but that's a bit more advanced.

Getting your pup to voluntarily give up items can become crucial in emergency situations and is a great skill to learn. Whether it's an electrical cord, a bottle of cleaner that may have been left out or another animal, teaching your pup that "Leave it" means he gets him something better (like a favorite toy, treat or a ton of praise) can be a life saver.

Of course, there may be items that your pup goes for over and over and can't be distracted from. This is when bitter apple, tabasco or keep off training sprays can come into play. These horrible tastes can act as a deterrant to chewing and may save your sanity.

Good luck!

Buy a variety of chew toys until you find his favorite. My dog loved the pig ears from the pet shop when she was a pup. And while you're at the pet shop, buy that chew repellant spray. Use it religiously. If somethings valuable to you, don't leave it on the floor. And scold him everytime he gets hold of something he shouldn't chew. He's teething so give it time but also don't let the chewing become a habit. Puppies are so cute so that we'll forgive them all their antics!

well how old is the puppy? if he is teething then you should get a rubbery toy because that helps the skin to break away and the tooth to come through. i have always heard that a puppy teething is worse than a baby! so just peek in his mouth like once or twice every week and check it out in there! if there are teeth getting ready to come you can go ask you vet what to do but the easiest thing to do would to get a rubbery toy! ok?

Train him. Teach him what is acceptable to have in his mouth and what isn't. It can be done. Get him toys he can mouth, if he destroys toys a kong that you fill with treats is always good. Keeps them busy a while. When he picks up the wrong thing just tell him "no" firmly, take the item and give him his own toy. When he chooses the right thing on his own, give him plenty of praise, tell him how good, how smart he is. He will make the connection. You just have to be diligent and consistent.

Hahaha, you probably ain't gonna be able to stop the little bugger. This sort of thing has been going on since day one of puppies. I can't begin to remember how many pair of house slippers and shoes I had ruined by the little varmints. A muzzle would probably work, but that seems so cruel. Get 'em a bunch of chew toys will help.

I had this some problem, I used the spray that is sour apple it didn't work, tired pepper, hot sause, nothing worked. I had to end up buying a whole lot of dog toys and when my dog chewed on something that wasn't her's, I put her in the bathroom, finally she put two and two together and chewed her own toys and not everything around the house

there is a spray at the pet store that you can get for that. it will not hurt the furniture or anything that you spray it on but it puts a bad taste in there mouth and the puppy will learn not to chew on things

lol puppies are like babies....they explore things with their mouths because they can get more information about it that way.
what size it is, what the texture is like.....etc.

1. make sure everything you don't want him to get to is OFF the floor every morning.
2. make sure ALL electrical plugs have a safety thing in them....he could lick it, or somehow get a nail stunk in it, if he "paws" it.
3. make sure ALL electrical wires and plugs are covered with a really good heavy duty cord protector....find them at any office supply store.
4. make sure you have plenty of things that ARE okay to put in his mouth. i.e. soft toys, medium hardness plastic...(puppies teeth, and loose teeth just like we do).
5. try putting peanut butting in notches or grooves of plastic toys...that will keep him busy.
6.NEVER use old socks as puppy toys...puppies (because of the teething) will usually chew them up to bits, and if they swallow it...it could cause an intestinal blockage.
7. take him out to the park, or lake...let him explore outside.
good luck and give him a hug for me!!! **i LOVE puppies* :D

Your puppy is teething. Get it some soft chew toys to relieve it's gums and put bitter spray on things it chews on that you don't want it to.
(sorry about calling your puppy it, but you didn't tell if it was a boy or a girl, so i couldn't put she or he)
