Tahini substitution: peanut butter
how about adding herbs to your hummus (oregano, cumin) or paprika, pepper, or curry powder, artichoke hearts (mashed), sun dried tomatoes

Try plain hummus dip without tahini. Adding cumin with your other ingredients. It will taste good as well. There are usually the 2 recipes in Lebanese cuisine, one with tahini and the other just plain pureed chickpeas with lemon.....etc.

I agree with the tahini sustitution. Try toasting pine nuts and putting them in your hummus with olive oil and fresh herbs.

without tahini or garlic it would probably distort the taste of it being hummus.
