If it's the MiniDV or Digital8 type: You need a battery (InfoLithium on most Digital8 camcorders) and a tape (MiniDV is it's own kind, Digital8 works with any 8mm tape). To get stuff onto your computer, use a FireWire (aka i.Link S400, IEEE 1394) and use WIndows Movie Maker, iMovie, or whatever you have, and fire away.
On the SD type, you need a battery, card, and (if there's no USB or Firewire port) a SD card reader.
On a HDD, you simply need a battery
On a DVD type, you need a battery and DVD (Polarity on the camcorder, which is + or -. If it's both, any polarity) R or RW.

a blank disk. and a batery(if it doesnt come with it) ive never used one either but those are the obvious things i can think of. you might also need a thing so ou can charge it like a thing you put in the battery to charge it ot a thing so you can plug in the camera and the outlet so you can charge it. (that is if its brand new)
