There is ALWAYS a way, if only we take time to really think about these issues, to solve the environmental problems before us.

Please ignore this question if it does not apply to you. I apologize for being overly harsh to those who it does apply to.

Are you willing to take the time to stop, quietly think about a problem, and share the great thoughts with us that you have come up with instead of giving glib responses? Many people, as I do, truly value your thoughts, no matter your age, and the time it takes to think of them and respond.

I try to honestly help all the people I respond to on Answers I wish other people felt the same way. I agree many minds being put together is how this country got to the moon and beyond. Found cures for diseases that millions of people have died from. If you don't feel like thinking about problem solving you really do not deserve to be a part of this world we all need to do our part. Everyone has a mind they just need to be taught how to use it. You never know when one little word from one person can spawn a whole ream of ideas.

I was almost afraid to enter here, for fear of what I'd find. Was happy to see the serious outweighed the silly. I come from a time that started out thinking about these issues seriously, and have only grown more serious about it as I've matured, watching what we'd predicted then come true over the decades. Perhaps that is why seeing the ignorance and doubt of the younger ones frightens me so much. Having a husband who is an ecologist doesn't help, either (LOL!).

While we both, of course, do everything we can, from hybrid cars to recycling at home and office, to joining every group and volunteer organization we can, we both agree that *education* is the key. Reach them young, hit them hard, teach them respect. Schools, churches, scouts, youth groups, fairs, anywhere possible -- show them the cute, the cuddly, the furry, the funny, the weird, the wonderful -- and make them care about them. They'll tell their friends, they'll nag their parents and grandparents and siblings -- and maybe, someday, they'll make a difference, too. At least, I hope so, the burden is getting heavy for us old folks! (sorry for the rant -- old and cranky on a Friday!)

Yes, I totally agree with you. That's why somebody great came out with this saying"When there's a will there's a way". Having said that, it still depends on what type of problem you are facing. If its a problem that involve GOD and the universe by large, it will take time, planning and pain to come out with the solution like e.g. MR Gore's question about reversing the effects of global climate change. That's a real task, because GOD has planned the world and everything in it by HIS will and purpose. If you think you can come out with any great idea it still should fit into GOD's will and purpose, otherwise you may not succeed as the proverb goes:"God disposes what man proposes". So always seek GOD's blessing before any attempt is met to solve any problem be it personal or for someone else., or for the world by large.. May God Bless you.

Allow me to first say that your question was worded in such a proper manner that I stopped to think. I think about this particular issue often. I am of this 3rd rock from the sun (so they say) thus it’s my responsibility to think, think and act.

Environmental support abilities as in; less impact on our environment, less careless, less needy and damaging of the distressed creatures, communities and Earth's prized environment. There are limitations to what each of us can do. That doesn’t mean there’s not a way to do it.
Everything from recycling to- taking all our other ideas to others- like you have just done here in this forum, are all equally important. The need for globalize-d empathy and regard is huge. We must do anything and everything we can. Get these ideas to your local college stations and papers- your independent papers and radio stations. Form a group in your community- there are loads of ideas for what kind of awareness group to start. It could simply be teaching our children that we must, each of us as humans, do our part so that this planet will be here for years to come. Teaching children will make a huge impact.

So my Answer is : Each day we have a choice, each action we take to help restore the earth and all its living beings. It is in our own back yard, in our own hometown-this is where it starts and this is where, I believe, I can make the most impact on saving this planet I call home. There is so much to do in such a small amount of time. Organize-utilize, social and environmental change is possible. Get out there and get busy. Educate those who are still in the “dark”

I really HAVE thought about the environmental problems before us and have concluded that they're relatively insignificant in the whole scale of things.

For example, I think that littering is a huge problem when compared to global warming...and we CAN do something about littering.

I also know that the Earth's environment goes through routine cycles (e.g. sometimes it's raining; sometimes it's not...or sometimes there's glaciers covering Upstate New York...sometimes not.)

Finally, I'm convinced that the Earth and mankind are not going to exist forever...so why should we take unnecessary measures to try and prevent nature from taking its course?

If you really want to think about it, medical progress has done more damage to the Earth's environment than has 100 years of internal combustion engines and air conditioning. Man was designed to live for about 40 years and 75% of babies should have died early in their childhood.

The logical solution would be for us to mandate that these "natural" life spans be honored.

The way to dramatically reduce our greenhouse gas emissions is to rely heavily on nuclear power. It can be done as safely and cleanly as any other form of energy, if people would just give it a chance instead of panicking at the N word.

Since this is a point based thing many just answer to get their 2 points. This does lead to alot of stupid non important or non relevant answers but alot of people still try to consider the questions that are put out there.

Just ignore the bull. :)

Always a way to stop the apophis meteor as it falls on my birthday April 13th 2029 determines if it will hit us in 3036. What if I stand up and shout "NOT ON MY BIRTHDAY' maybe God made us spiritual beings as the way to stand up to such an event.
Not that saving is a good thing I must say my mothers name is Gudmanson. Result of Krammerie and Gudmanson stands before you. They used to call us "sever field" and 'neophyte" and our government continued the experiment of the "lieber spawn"....

I agree but with free will, it would be hard to implement. Can we impose a mandatory car turn in? I'll trade my E350 van for a bunch of horses if everyone else will get off the road too.

No matter how hard I try, or how long I sit and think about it, I'll never be able to bend the spoon. Because, yes, there is a spoon.
