People often stare up as if looking into their brains while thinking. Is there any scientific or mathematical/statistical proof that "staring into the brain" make you think better?

Technically no, such movement causes a strain in the arteries leading into the head (more so in people with partial or near-complete blockage), such that their CAPACITY to think IN THAT POSITION would technically actually be LESS.

Best wishes--try thinking with your head ERECT like all good proper brit moms teach! :)

Think according to the maieutical school has 5 processes:

Observer , Analyze , Create, Recreate and Conclude.
If the 5 are not there, is just being rational, that is not the same as thinking.
Staring is a process of get all the details of a situation or object to conduct a good observation that will enhance the whole thinking experience.

I would say either they would think better if staring at a blank space (ceiling, blank wall space) that has less distractions, or, if they shifted their view to get a refreshed view to keep thoughts from being stagnant.

One is to help you focus, one is to stimulate your mind. Both will help you think better. Sometimes people just focus on the other person's eyes to look sincere too.

I don't think it matters if you are looking up or down or anywhere else...it probably depends on your state of mind...but I guess I generally look down when I am thinking.

I think people simply do so to concentrate their attention, while looking at objects can "disturb the thinking process" ...
