Do you ever really let go of a relationship? But the best thing to do is first stop all contact at least for a while. I say 6 month but some need few or more time. You cry a little. Surround yourself with friends and family and people you care about. But mostly, take time out to be alone with your thoughts. You are the only one who knows what you want. Listen to yourself. Because, weather you believe it or not, you have your best interest at heart.

imapoohbear2 actually has it right. It's also sad to say, it's the same way in a divorce. Know this: It will get worse before getting better. Most people will tell you to jump back into the scene, date, hang out, etc. But for most, this isn't that easy. Let the body get cold. The most important lesson here is the lesson itself. Understand what happened and why the relationship ended. Do not blame yourself but learn from it. It's the only way you can go into a new relationship. This is important b/c you don't want to repeat the bad things and start a vicious cycle of abuse and torture. You next relationship should always be better than the one ending. So take your time. Focus on yourself and your needs.

Good luck to you.
