I took it as he no longer wants to just date me, he wants to take the relationship to the next level. Am I right? Have you ever asked a woman this before, and what did you mean by it?

YOU ALL ARE WRONG...LOL....when boi/man tells you he wants you by his side, he basically saying he wants you as his girlfriend/bestfriend to be there for him. When we say we want you by our side we are almost saying we want you to be there for us, experience things with us N do things with us, N all by our side. In no bad way is he saying what you think or that he nolnger wants you trust me. If you do not feel comfortable with my answer or the other ones, feel comfortable to ask him and im quite sure he will tell you. Then once yall talk this will help with your comminucation with getting things off your mind to each other a little. Hopefully this helped you enough.

Don't look too deep into it. Let his actions speak. What comes out of his mouth is hard to interpret. As for me, the last time I said those words, I married her.

Possibly, but you could always ask him. It's an expression and you shouldn't read into it too much.
