I havent used it but know some moms who have and love it. They did say that cleaning it out can be a little hard. Worth it though if it sooths those gums without meds for the little guy (girl).

Don't put water-filled teething rings in the freezer. If you or I bit on them, nothing would happen. When your baby bites on them, it's way too cold against his tender, swollen gums, and could actually damage them. Put them in the fridge for several hours, but not in the freezer.

The Orajel swabs (look like q-tips) worked for my two boys. They're a lot easier to use, and less messy. Plus, they're sterile when they're packaged, so you don't have to worry about introducing dirt/germs/bacteria into your baby's mouth from your hands, if they're not washed properly.

Also, try wetting the corner of a wash cloth and freezing that. Unlike a water filled teething ring, this will defrost almost as soon as your baby starts chewing on the frozen end, and the texture/wetness of it might soothe his gums.

Plain rubber/silicone teething toys are nice too. They're not cold, but the nubby texture of them might feel good to your baby.

Didn't know if I would use it or not as I hate mess...but I give my 5 month old teething rings out of the fridge (becasue they are just too cold for her to hold out of the freezer) but another thing I do is fill a 4 oz bottle with chilled water and let her chew and suck on the nipple...teaches her how to hold her own bottle (which she has been doing for 2 weeks now) and she gets a little water out of it.

ohh NO don't put it in the freezer hon. put them in the fridge.
i found a teether toy at wal-mart about 8yr ago when my son was teething...its shaped like a star, and each tip has a different texture to it. when they bite down on it...it vibrates.
my son LOVED it
8yrs later i looked to see if walmart still has that for my daughter (will be 5 months on the 8th), and sure enough they still carry it! i bought it. and she loves it!

i only use Orajel or Ambisol Baby...as a last resort. it numbs them up TOO well...she bites down on her lip and cant nurse for an hour at lest. that stuff was awful for my son..he bite his lip a few times till they bled! its just a strange feeling for them and that tends to upset them more that the teething pain for some reason.
i just give some tylenol for the pain.

I, personally don't like Hylands--it has caffeine in it.

Honestly, my Dr told me to give my son tylenol or ibuprofen (check with dr for dose amount). My son was completely uninterested in teething rings, frozen washcloths, frozen food, etc. I think the cold may have actually bothered him a bit.

Think about it, if you had a toothache, wouldn't you take tylenol/ibuprofen?

I have one & it worked well. It's a little messy, but then, what isn't with a baby! You can also put soft fruit pieces in like wedges of peach or pear. A hunk of banana will work in it as well. Just be sure that your son is up to nashing on the fruit before you give it to him.

for a 5 months old the best is the teethers in the refrigerator.

The mesh feeder I found it that it gets to difficult to clean it. I used to have one, but I get rid of it.

well my son has teethed so already. Luckily he has had no problems in this process yet.

I do believe it be messy at first. He will soon catch on to the fact that swallowing will be less messy though.

Let me know how this turns out if you choose to go this route.

Yes, I bought that for my godson when he was teething...it worked pretty well. Alas, it does get a bit messy. Although, it did seem to ease the pain for him.
