I have a 13 year old maltese. About a year ago she developed sores underneath her tongue, it smells really bad and she drools all the time now, you can tell it hurts her because she doesn't want to eat like she use too, all she wants to do is sleep. I have taken her to 2 different vets, the first one said her teeth were scraping her tongue and so she pulled some of her teeth, and then she put her on Clindamycin. That didn't work so I took her to another and he thought it was tumors but that came back negative. He put her on Baytril but that hasn't worked either. She seems to be getting worse. Does anyone have any ideas? I hate to see her in this kind of pain. Any help would be appreciated.

Flea bites can cause mouth sores, but I would hope your vet checked for this. If not, scour your dog and see if you can find fleas or flea dirt. If not, ask your vet to refer you to a specialist.

Has the vet ever suggested that you brush the dogs teeth? Maybe if you brush the dogs teeth and tongue daily it will help. Ask the vet if not I would demand a specialist.

Have you had the sores biopsied? At her age it could be an oral cancer. It's so hard when even the doctors dont know what it is! Ask your vet if there is a pain medication that can just keep her comfortable
