why can't we celebrate the differences and see the similarities in the quest for knowledge of the Divine. why does it have to be a COMPETITION?

i use the word Divine in an effort to include all belief systems- Divine can be defined as LIFE itself- thus including the atheists
it's all in the definitions- another way we like to seperate
we certainly are complex creatures

Well, for starters, If you refer to Muslims and Jews or Christians, these religions go back to the same beginnings. They all were created in the Middle East. While, I am not an expert in wither, they have had the same problems form many thousands of years. A good way to avoid conflict is for the west to stop trying to control the middle east. They are fanatic about their religion, why bother. As for creating a democracy in Iraq, Well, look around in the Middle East, those countries all have some form or anarchy. Even if they have a president, he does not call the shot but the religious leaders.

Religions differ according to the different ways that is easy for a soul to reach realisation. But it is actually those people who think they dont want seperation and think one way is good for everyone try to pull other religion and other religions then start to compete. Its a vicious circle. It will be nice when everyone can that everyone following a religion is on a spiritual quest and everyone travels in the path which is comfortable for them. But obviously many havent yet raised to that level. So we just have to grow civilised, be tolerant of others. When there is love there will not be competition and there will be peace.

The way to peace will be found by God's Kingdom, and certainly not by humans nor religions.

The Bible foretells a time when peace will be achieved—but not through the efforts of mankind. Psalm 46:9 says regarding the Creator, Jehovah God: “He is making wars to cease to the extremity of the earth.” How will God accomplish this? By means of his Kingdom, for which many sincere people have repeatedly prayed. That Kingdom is, not an elusive condition of the heart, but a real government through which God will establish peace from one end of the earth to the other. The inspired prophet Isaiah foretold that subjects of that government will not “learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:4) By means of a worldwide educational program, people will learn to live in peace and thus “beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears.”

Even now, Jehovah’s Witnesses are doing this. They refuse to take up arms against their fellowman, although they belong to many different ethnic groups and are living in over 200 different lands. Their neutral position in the midst of a war-ravaged world proves that peace is not a Utopian dream but a realistic possibility.

If you would like to learn more about this Bible-based hope for genuine peace, please contact Jehovah’s Witnesses at the local Kingdom Hall. Or visit http://www.watchtower.org

Very creative the first person. However, to answer the person's question, if you are only talking about why Christians quarell with each other over petty details, ya the guy above me has a good point. Dont' know Jesus no peace (for everyone). And know Jesus know peace (for all Christians). It is a competition because everybody interprets the bible differently. However, if you are talking about people of other religions mixed in or athiests mixed in (like myself), then honestly its because not everybody believes in the Devine.

Well, not everyone has a quest for knowledge of a "Divine" because they don't believe in one. I'm one of them. So see how hard it is to not separate people? You separated me, probably without even intending to! Belief systems coupled with human personalities are just too complex...

It is human nature. There is and always will be massive competition between humans, and religion begin something that is held very dearly by many is highest on the list. It is sad, I have lost many friends because my religion differs from what they believe. I think the key is for us to take the separation it causes with a grain of salt and not keep the cycle going. I think that was babble but...do you know what I mean?

Think of early history of civilization. The largest populations of alliance were not regional or ethnic, but religious divisions. The world was divided into huge populations between Christian, Hindu, Hebrew, Islam, Buddhist and Muslim. They struggle for power over the land and its resources. In modern days the struggle is over political ideology, with religion playing a role on the side. Today Islam and Iraq sees the invasion not by Americans but by Christians as a continuation of the Christian Crusades beginning in the 11th century.

The differences are long historical conflicts. Israel as a land reclaimed by the Hebrews, an ethic and religious campaign in modern days has become a religious standoff between Judaism and Muslims. The territory they fight over is holy land and great significance to both religions. Thousands of years ago the middle east was a lush and fertile place and coveted for it's climate, but now it's an arid dessert, not much to fight for.
So, if an individual can respect other cultures and learn from them it is a great attitude and helps us to accept people for who they are. When we see people in conflict over religion it's difficult for us to understand their situation.
I'm sure you would be fighting too, if your children were eating sand while the people living on your ancestral land were living lavishly.

The way to Peace is within yourself.
There will never be a Utopia, not here on earth. But you can make it Utopia within your existence, I believe thru meditation. Whether it's religion based or spiritual, if you are truly enlightened, you will see the world thru your soul as Peace. You won't care if someone believes and follows a different word or God. You will not comdemn or believe ppl will be comdemned to hell for not being like you or follow a script.
Bliss and realization is not acheived thru condemning or an ultimatum.
it's thru pure Love, which is not a fairytale.

WHICH religion?

Christianity begs for peace and understanding like the good Samaritan. Jesus said you should follow the laws in your country as long as they don't violate His laws. He says to love ALL people, love your enemies, (and I found in that way they often will become friends through pressures of others around them, or through them realizing I am not a danger like they thought I was).

Muslims are the same.

There are so many misconceptions, even among the religious because they do not bother to READ their own holy book.

the way to peace?
You start in Denver, take I-25 south. When you get to Albequerque take I-40 West. In Flagstaff, take I-17 South Until you get to Phoenix. Take I-8 west for a while. When you get to the middle of the desert, drive onto a side road until you find yourself alone. That is how you get to peace. Come back when you are ready.
