Your tunes should be backed up as part of your backup routine.
Use a remote computer share or removable drive such as a USB caddy so you can have separation beween your computer and backup. Windows backup will provide incremental backups so you don't have to backup evrything each time. Norton ghost 10 is an excellent way to backup your system.

shove it on your IPOD then customize it so that your Ipod no longer automatically updates when it is connected, use our CD burner just to burn data CDs of all your songs, in addition to that try to find a cheap external hard drive so you could back it up on that.

iPod syncs with iTunes then you make a playlist from your library in iTunes and then you burn the playlist to a cd by selecting the songs and then hitting the burn button at top right.
