It is quite possible, although I myself do not have that gift, nor can I interpret tongues. I've seen plenty of other folks do it and I can honestly say it's not some kind of made up thing; it really sounds like a language.
Some folks ignorantly believe it's from Satan. However, speaking in tongues is documented throughout the New Testament. Another misconception is that the unknown language must be a HUMAN language. The Apostle Paul mentions the language of angels several times and explains this is a means of communicating verbally with God.
Anyone who disbelieves in tongues simply hasn't experienced this. This is quite understandable. As with anything in life, though, you shouldn't judge until you have all the information.

Yes I have. It happened when I was saying hallelujah over and over and then my tongue start moving all over the place in my mouth and I was stomping all over the ground but I felt at peace and it flowed naturally but it wasn;t me. It serves two purposes the first and most common is a person speaking to God through the spirit. The second is to relay a message to the congregation that isn't in their own language requiring an interpreter. If you ever pray but don't know what to say tongues allows you ask for what you need. If you have a disease like cancer you don't know about tongues can have you ask for healing before it even developes. It also gives praise to God in more ways. It sounds different on some people. A lot of people fake it but at my church it is all real. Only a few people do it but every one who is saved has. Sometimes we all do it at the same time. If a person speaks in tongue, the peorson who is next to him may start too. If you go to a church where they tell you to make the little sounds then it is FAKE!!!!! NOT REAL IT IS JUST GIBBERISH!!! It happens when the spirit of God gives the ability. It sounds like African or Arabic or Chinese. Some fakers say honda or like a shina ma shu. It sounds too fluent to be fake and few people have enough time to sit there trying to perfect a false thing to God just for attention. If it is really slow it is probably fake or there are many pauses it is probably fake to because the person has to think of what to say.

The Greek word is "glossalota". Speaking in tounges was actually common in the Roman era, even in pagan religions. It's considered one of the "gifts of the Spirit" by the Church. I hesitate to comment one way or the other regarding the Holy Spirit, as blasphemy there is said to be unforgivable.
From personal experience, when I was a kid in high school it was a bright spring day. I was young, healthy and free; filled with the joy of just being alive. I spoke the words "Allah Akbar". I had no clue what that meant or where they came from, other than as a pure expression of joy. I wrote them down so I would remember and took a lot of time searching for what they meant. (This was way before the internet, and foreign language dictionaries are hard to come by in a small Kansas town. Eventually I found the words are Arabic and mean "God is great."
Decide for yourself if I spoke in tounges, and whether or not that was a "gift".

I am sure that as a Christian you wont take scientific evidence very seriously. But there have been linguists who have studied "speakign in tongues" and in nearly every case they could determine that it was no language spoken today-- in fact this kind of speech does not follow universal rules for language that all languages (ever) show.
So, to be precise in your question-- it may be possible to speak in tongues, but it is certainly NOT a language, and it is not able to convey information or knowledge.

Personally, I haven't but here's a quote and link that might provide what you are looking for:
"Sometimes, the tongues spoken are reported to be real, known tongues of today. Most often, it's unusual tongues such as Basque, Berber, Albanian, or one of the Caucasus Mountain or Bushman languages, though Finnish is reported quite often. When this happens, it's sometimes called 'xenolalia', and the activity is called 'xenoglossic' (well, maybe if you're a college professor...)."

I have experienced speaking in tongues and can tell you that it's real and a wonderful gift from God. I had an experience on a mission trip to Nicaragua with speaking in tongues changed my life. Keep in mind I speak about 3 words in Spanish and don't even do that well. I was praying for a woman in one of the churches we visited. I was speaking in tongues and just being lead by the spirit. While praying I heard the woman say "Thank you Jesus" and other phrases in English. After praying I noticed she does not speak English but she new every word I said in her language and I heard her in mine.

I actually don't believe this thing ... but its worth a second look.
I am a doubting Thomas ... obviously. I've been to chharismatic gatherings and i personally witness people speaking in tounges. The difficulty however is that it is really hard top recognize the genuine ones from the fakes.
Brabadadadadakoliokkhuokiulo huiyt houyy jgg gogogjuyt soikakakatayr ....
How do you make sense of that?
However, this is a matter of faith, and there are elements in faith that are given simply because we believe. What may seem stupid to the non-believing eyes can actually be life-giving to another. So who am I to judge the other? Besides if ur a bible reader (i'm not, but scans it) u'll find that Paul in his letters to the Corinthian agrees with the pervading belief then that the greatest gift of the spirit is the ability to speak in tounges.
So in conclusion, I say that yes it is possible, and it is happening, but to tell whether it is real or fake is the real challenge.
Who knows, one day you may wake up and you suddenly find yourself speaking in tounges?
Joke: of course you speak with ur tounges. lol

1 Corinthians 12 states it is possible and therefore should not be dismissed. But it is a lesser gift and greater gifts should be sought.
There are a couple of interpretations as to how tongues are applied. Both are acceptable and correct.
Read the book "Empowered Evangelicals" by Rich Nathan.

According to the Bible it is possible under certain conditions. If you see it today-it is more than likely false. Some people think they are more respectable if they can do something supernatural. The devil sets traps for weak faithed people. He catches quiet a few. In many pentecostal churches they claim to speak in tongues-they are deceived. They in turn lead many people astray.

Yes, but the 'speaking in tongues' phenomenon is actually demonic in origin, so I would stay AWAY from those kind of people. Most of the time 'speaking in tongues' is incoherent gibberish but sometimes the demons working through the people speak in coherent languages, but it is bad nonetheless.
