Checking web sites indicates some say it's the French version of Daniel, some the Italian version. Either way, it means "God is my judge".

"God is my judge"
*EDIT*
It's Hebrew (that is, the origin is). It comes from the name "Dan," which means "judge." The "iella" part signifies God's name. Like, how He's called "El-Shaddai." Notice the "el." Same idea, just spelled differently. We tend to do that in English--spell things differently. Especially with names.
The biblical character, Daniel, is the male form of this name.
