I am currently taking Effexor XR. I have been since the middle of December. It has been helping me. I started out at the lowest dosage and was slowly increased to the highest dosage. It has helped me out a great deal compared to what I was on before. I was on paxil before switching. I am diagnosed as having depression and anxiety.

I have taken Effexor-XR for over two years now. When I went to the doctor my complaint was that I just didn't feel like doing much of anything anymore, even things I enjoyed. He prescribed the Effexor and I suppose it has helped some, but now, I can't quit taking it because the withdrawal effects are so bad and last so long. When you quit, you are VERY irritable and lose patience easily, and generally feel lousy. I wouldn't start it now if I knew that - maybe one of the other serotonin reuptake inhibitors would have fewer withdrawal problems.

Makes you stronger. It helps the depression, enough to carry on with life. I don't think it helps mania much, but I don't know if it was supposed to. The way that it makes you stronger is that is hard to get off. But you'll want to get off, and it's hard to do that. It helps you get over your depression yourself and not relying on a drug - even though Zoloft helps you wean off Effexor.

Depression. No it didn't help. It just made me feel stoned all the time. The great thing was that it intensifies the effects of alcohol and is safe to mix with it. So three beers and you and good!

Anexiety. It helps to an extent. It's the type of drug that you need to take with food and daily though or the side effects hit you like a brick.
