I have a 3 1/2 year old and a 5 month old. I lack a good schedule or routine. Any suggestions. From the time that you get to the time you go to sleep what is a good routine that works and gets everything done that a stay at home mom needs to do. My mother was a terrible role model.

I didn't really have a good role model either. I work a couple days a month so I'm not completely a stay at home mom, but for the majority of the month I am. We don't really have a routine. A lot depends on what is in our schedules. Laundry is done daily. I do bake for at least half of all our breakfasts. Lunches are usually leftovers or something quick like sandwiches. I always start dinner at 3 p.m. I use very little premade or store bought dinners or ingredients. I try to grocery shop either early in the week (Monday or Tuesday) or late in the evening when the store isn't so crowded. I spend a lot of time outside with my boys so most inside chores I've learned to do quickly. Keeping up on everything is key.

I start my day off with an hour of exercise starting at 7:00 in the morning. I take a shower at 8:00. I then fix breakfast at 8:30 and eat. After breakfast I get the kids ready for the day and we are finished with that by 9:30. I let the kids play from 9:30 until about 11:30 while I clean, do laundry, or this time is used to run errands. At 11:30 I start fixing lunch and have it ready by 12:00 (when my husband comes home for lunch). If I have a minute I get on the internet while it's cooking. We eat at noon and then clean up from lunch. The kids can play again until 1:00. At 1:00 we start settling down for a nap. This includes visiting with the kids, reading stories and singing songs. At 1:30 it is nap time until 3:30. I also take a nap at this time. When we wake up we have the rest of the day to enjoy. We fix dinner at 5:30 and eat at about 6:00 and clean up afterward. We go swimming or to the park from 7:00-8:00. At 8:00 we go home and keep the house quiet in preperation for bedtime. At 8:30 we read and get the kids ready for bed. At 9:00 lights are out. My husband and I have a couple of hours to spend together each night before we go to bed at about 11:00. Sounds like a busy schedule, but it works well. It does change slightly during the school year.

I don't follow a strict routine...I just kind of go with the flow. If something doesn't get done because my kids want to do this or that, who cares. It will still be there tomorrow. Your kids are only little for a short time. I may not have the neatest house, but my kids are happy!

This is easy for me NOW lol
I have 3 kids that can care for them self now but when they were younger it was chaos j/k

I would get up around 7:00 before the kids got up cook breakfast by the time breakfast was cooked kids were up they would eat and I send them to brush there teeth 30 mins. of t.v. while I clean the kitchen up. after i got the kitchen done they could go play in there rooms while i got some laundry going this is when i would also make the beds pick up and stray items that mysteriously found there way to the hall or floor in another room lol then when i would put the first load of laundry in the dryer start another I would then go fix lunch call the kids in for lunch while they were eating i would pick the kitchen up run dishwater(i didn't have the luxery of a dishwasher at that time)send them to go brush agian while i washed the dishes they would play a little longer. After i got the dishes done it was quiet time (i never called it nap time) while they were napping i would fold clothes finish the wash and crash on the couch for about 30 mins or so till they got up by this time it was around 2:00. After thay got woke up i would give them a snack after the snack they had to go pick up there toys in there rooms i would make there beds while they picked up there toys then I would go start dinner by the time dinner was done my husband was home. I would finally put the kids down around 8:00 and finish up the rest of the chores and go to bed. I know that your kids are a little younger than that but you can adjust that for your personal needs.

I am a work at home dad of a 5 mo old. She gets up at 7am, mom feeds her, I go exercise. I am back at 8am, mom leaves and baby is in playgym on the floor in my office. Feed her about 10a and change diaper, then put her down for a nap. Go for a walk with her around Noon and eat/diaper again at 1pm. Another nap at 2pm. At 3pm we play for a bit then eat around 3:30pm. She plays or swings for an hour then mom comes home and takes over.
