Before my children were 8, I read to them every night. EVERY night.

As an educator I see that children who are read to a lot, will develop a love for reading and will recognize words earlier than children who are not exposed to books, poems, newspapers etc.

i don't but wish i could. i really don't have enough time to do so. i;m a single mother and work full-time plus go to school full-time. i hat it but i know at the end it will pay off. she thinks that i hate her because i never spend any time with her. that alone kills me inside. i try to explain to her that i work so much and go to school to give her a better life then i had but she is only six and will not understand that. ihope that one day ishe will realize why i worked so hard and why i am the way i am. hopefully she weill be just like me when she gets older. i want to show her that she can rely on herself and me all the time. i hope that she turns out to be the best she can be.

I feel like a horrible mother...I don't read to my daughter at all before bed time. In fact, I hardly ever read to her. Her attention span doesn't last as long as the books, usually. It frustrates me.

I try to read to them everynight, if we don't read we'll make up stories, or sing songs. It's a very comforting thing for parent and child to do together. I'm a little scared of the day they no longer want to do it.
