I feed my two dogs premium dog food like Iams or Science Diet. The food might be a little more expensive than the wal-mart brand dog food but it is definitely worth it. Sometimes when you feed dogs the "cheap" brand of dog food you can end up with a dog that starts bad habits like watching the dog start to eat his own poop.
Dogs will start doing this because they aren't getting the proper nutrition from their food. They eat their poop to try to get any remaining nutrients from it because their bodies didn't absorb enough nutrients to satisfy their nutrient needs.
Our dogs depend on us to provide for them the best we can. We don't have to spend millions on expensive dog treats or toys...sure they like their toys and treats....but we should at least give them the best food we can because it helps to sustain their life and helps them to have a better quality life. You'll notice when you feed your dog better quality food that their skin isn't as itchy and their coat is much shinier (from different high quality proteins)and all sorts of beneficial things that a dogs gets from good food. Best of all they won't be eating their poop.

:)

PS (if you have a puppy)- its also VERY important to keep a puppy on puppy food for as long as the bag or your vet tells you too. A puppy needs even more nutrients than an adult dog does. Puppy food takes those needs into consideration and helps the puppy throughout its very important growing stages. Switching a puppy to adult food too soon can create the poop eating problem.

Its called BilJack. Comes frozen. Petsmart and Publix carry it.
I feed it because it is the only dog food she will eat. Also it takes less. She gets between 1/4 and 1/2 cup a day. She's only 9 pounds.

My dog has a bit of a sensative stomach. I feed him Nutro's Natural Choice.

It's a lamb and rice formula, which seems to do well for him.

I feed my dog the raw food diet. He eats 2.5 pounds of raw chicken a day. His coat is shiner and he is much healthier. I also feed him raw pumpkin, Vitamin E, and raw eggs.

BTW my "puppy" is now 120 pounds, when full grown he should be 170 pounds.

Never go for the cheepest or the one on sale. Dog deserve the best. Don't go for a store brand; CVS, Walgreens, Shaw's; they do not have all the nutrients the dogs need. Unfortunetly, the only way to provide this is to find the best brand, even if it is expensive.

Iams smart puppy. It is what the breeder was feeding the dog when we bought him. I figure, why change his food.

I buy one of the cheapest I can find because they're just dogs - they eat roadkill and poop - why spend a fortune on food?
