I convinced my g/f to go to Washington DC with all of my family to celebrate xmas. It's quite a long flight from West Texas but she agreed! Upon arriving we quickly began to get ready and dress sharp for midnight mass at the Basilica. I had no idea how I was going to ask her to marry me but i carried the ring with me at all times so i can do it when it felt right! Well after the long mass had ended I felt that this was the place to do it. I asked my brother in law to take a picture of us up at the alter after mass since it was so nicely decorated (mind you it was packed with people wanting to do the same). So he took a picture of both of us standing in front of the alter, me with my hand in my pocket grasping the ring hard...trying to convince myself to get it out already. Once he finished snapping the picture I got down on one knee and popped the question. I have no idea what i said because i was so darn nervous, but she said yes nonetheless. People all around us applauded and congratulated us as we walked away from the alter and after she said yes, it was great! our family just came up and congratulated us as well. It was a great way to start our vacation, we stayed for a week longer and had an engagement party in DC. It was incredible! We even have a great pic of me on one knee asking her and she just has a priceless look of surprise. I think that was the best part, now we can show our future kids how I did it!

I would want a guy to propose to me is a big way!! I would want the whole nice dinner and fireworks and a balcony sounds nice oh and he would defenetly have to get on his knee and say something like "I cant imagine living my life with out you!" or better yet " will you do me the honor of growing old with me?"

Baby, we need to talk. Can you meet me at this place at this time tonight? And when we meet, we talk about our relationship, how much it means to us, where we want it to go, and then when we leave wherever we are, we can go for a walk in the park, beach, etc. enjoying each other's company. Somewhere along the way, he will traditionally propose with a ring. No need for air balloons, fancy stuff, because we can save that money for our honeymoon. Or........he can ask his daughter of whom he has custody to give me the ring and ask me to be her new mother (he has sole custody).

Nice to see the answers from women. It solves the problem most men face when proposing. Just a kiss and say " Will you marry me?" So simple and straightforward. Ok kneel down too. No problems for men. Thank you girls.

When I got engaged...he was so nervous all day that he just stayed away from me all day which was very unusual. Everytime I would ask him what was wrong he'd get crabby and tell me to leave him alone. Finally later that night he came to me very seriously and said "we need to talk.". With the way he acted all day I was sure it was over. He started talking about how great our relationship was and how much it had meant to him and I started bawlling. He asked me what was wrong and I begged him not to leave me. He just laughed and said "On the contrary babe, will you be my wife?" I about died of excitement!

I would of liked it if my fiance planned a nice weekend getaway just for the two of us like to the beach or the lake and then asked me there. Another good idea is to go somewhere that you two went together when you first met like the restaurant where you had your first date and ask her there. Good Luck !

If she was the girl of my dreams in my sleep of course
in the stereotypical manner: i.e. a posh restaurant and then going out onto the balcony when the stars are out and then kneeling down and proposing...
yes, i watch too many hollywood movies.
i think if someone was to propose to me which a couple have be4.... it would have to be sponatneous and romantic,
like he'd kiss me and then look at me in the eyes and then gently get on his knee and ask me. i think the best things in life are unpredictable and sponatenous
first fine out if she has a true feelings for you, also be very sure you want to spend the rest of your life with her. after a good love making ask her if she will be your wife.

dont think i can beat your idea, am a slow to start kinda brother i would have to date her first, i guess my fisrt line could be like "hi mummy, your first son chose me to be his daddy".
Get this ring on, love. You're engaged.
So, you wanna have my babies or what?
