I want to load all my CDs on to my hard drive (keeping CDDB info) at a high quality. I don't want to use iTunes because I may need use a different player or program to play them someday.

Thoughts? Thanks for your input.

Media Player 7 to 10
You probably already have it installed on your PC so this just means you save space for other stuff.

Simply go to to:
Tools
Options
Rip Music

Then set the format to MP3

If needed change the location

Windows Media Player 10 is pretty good at ripping and organizing CD collections. My only gripe with it is they have it preset to about half the bitrate you'd want and it's present to rip to wma. These settings can be easily changed though. Just go to Tools->Options and switch it to mp3. Then raise the bit rate to 128 kbps or greater.

If you don't see mp3 you'll need to install an mp3 encoder. I've included a link that will walk you though installing the Lame MP3 Encoder.

MusicMatch Jukebox or, if you want something more powerful that can do the conversion (not only to MP3 but just about any other audio format) and EDITING audio files, special effects and a whole list of other things, check out Cool Edit Pro, now called Adobe Audition. You can probably find it under the older name in bargain sales.

Windows XP media player offers such a service. Go to their home-page, find the rubric of converting into mp3, and read the steps to do it. I managed to do it in 1 min per song or even less for free.
