Im going out with my boyfriend three months, we went for our first meal out last night, he mentioned after dinner that he was paying and I said no Ill pay half (thought it had to be said :0) ) so we halved it each and he let me keep the change €20.00 to buy some phone credit. He is really kind and caring dont get me wrong but its kinda bugging me that he should maybe have insisted on paying being our first meal out and all? Maybe Im being too stupid!

not really, if you stood by your opinion, just stick to it. it could be good and he thinks that u are well opinionated, and intelligent enough to think and communicate that to him. keep going out, and next time, maybe you can let him pay. dont worry about the money issues as this is shallow for real realationships, until it gets serious. if u like him u like him, doesnt matter who pays for the meal...

So its been 3 months and this is the first time he took you to dinner ?? and you paid half ?? Kind and caring or not this guy is cheap. What a turn off. Never offer to pay that early in the relationship.

Respectfully, on the first dinner date he should have insisted on treating you to dinner The only way i could see him being ok with going dutch is if you are dating casually and seeing other people. if not, ditch the cheapskate while your relationship is still new. next he'll have you paying a 100%. men don't respect women like they used to (and i am a man, but i repect my girl in that area).

When he said he was paying, you should have said, "Oh, thank you so much. You're so good to me."

Instead you expressed a desire to show your autonomy and independence. Out of respect for you, he was willing to let you do that.

yes stupid, you fought for equality, now that you have it, you want some of the old to come back, why not buy him a dinner? it is realy a selfish thing to expect.

At least he offered. No offense, but if you didn't want to pay half, you shouldn't of offered.
