I would strongly recommend a "Life Application Bible" as it gives verse by verse commentary along with how it relates to your life.
Personally, I also listen to www.walkintheword.com radio broadcasts (you can also listen online) There are many radio ministries that can supplement your pastor's teaching.

Just to name a few!
God bless you in your quest for wisdom :)

I donot know the name of every good bok to read besides the Bible. I have found thast the crossings book club offers a wide variety of realyy good books on alot of aspects of the Bible. One author I really like Is Max Lucado he offers some very good advise in simple terms. The one title I have recently purchased is "The Cure for theCommon Life". Interesting title but very good advise. I would love to share the bok with you . You could reach me At wolfinator58@yahoo.com. There are alot of really good books at Crossings. I am guessing that the Bible gets confusing, another piece of advice would be to aquire a New International Version, it has exactly the same messages but in simpler terms, it is the Bible I own. I hope I have helped.

www.cbd.com This is a Christian book seller online. You can enter key words and search for what you want. Most times, just use the book of the Bible that you want to study, I'm sure you'll get loads of hits. There are many many good authors out there. Lee Stroble has a series of "Case for..." books that are outstanding. I've gone through Case for Christ in a study group... just outstanding.

always depends on your believes
I know the Jewish way to learn the Bible, and it is only in the language which was written (Hebrew and/or Aramaic).
To learn the Bible in its original, you have to learn Hebrew first.
Why?
Because the Bible was translated to many languages and every translator or writer added from its own interpretation, and the document was influenced by their personality.
Anyway, does not matter in which language, it counts your application to do it well.
Good luck and Shabat Shalom to all.
