I'm 37 and have been diagnosed with RA last year. I've been seeing doc, but don't feel he's taking me seriously. He seems to be one of the arrogant sort. I'm not sure how to handle the situation. He asked me on my last visit if the meds were helping and I answered honestly, saying "no". He became very belligerant and almost nasty, telling me my "pain was not that bad", and I "expect too much". At the time, I had only been on treatment less than 4 weeks. He told me up front that it would take 6 weeks to see improvement. It took 8 weeks to see anything. The only improvement has been in the swelling of my joints about 3 or 4 days a week. I have another appointment Monday, and am seriously afraid to to tell him that I'm still in pain. How do I handle this situation without being yelled at again?

No doctor should ever yell at you. If you feel that he is being unprofessional report him to the medical society. Change doctors. He has no idea of what your pain level is. Everyones ability to deal with pain is different. I know that they teach that in medical school. Tell him to kiss your butt and change doctor's immediatly. You have enough to deal with when it comes to your disease. You don't have to take his crap.

Imagine for a moment your arthritis completely vanishing right now.

If, in a moment, your pain and stiffness melted away. And your joints all of a sudden functioned like a well-oiled machine.

Like a magic wand was waived, you'd be able to jump up from your chair and run around the room like a kid.

And imagine that you'd never have to suffer as much as a pinch of arthritis stiffness or pain ever again.

I know this sounds impossible right now, but bear with me, because sometimes miracles happen.

It was a gift from a woman on the other side of the world. From the kindness of her heart, she took pity on my suffering and taught me how to completely reverse my arthritis.

Today, I want to do the same for you!

If you honestly feel pain, and you are not embellishing your symptoms for any reason, then I would suggest you get a second opinion. At best, you and your doctor are not connecting right about your treatment, and sometimes a change is needed. At worst, your doctor is a jerk. I might wait for the appointment to see if the doc was having a bad day, but really even that is not acceptible. Hope you get better.
