The JW recieve their direction from The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society headquarted in New York. This organization claims to be the channel of communication from God to His people, that it represents Jesus on earth, and that you cannot find scriptural guidance outside of this organization. Here are some quotes:
" It should be expected that the Lord would have a means of communication to His people here on earth, and He has clearly shown that the magazine The Watchtower is used for that purpose" 1939 Yearbook of JW.
"We all need help to understand the bible, and we cannot find the scriptural guidance we need outside the faithful and discreet slave organization" 1981, The Watchtower
"From time to time their have been people, who like satan, have adopted an independant attitude...they say that it is sufficient to read the bible exclusively alone or in small groups at home." 1981 The watchtower
Do you have any comments on this?
Is it true, does the watchtower control you?

It is because they have altered their version of the bible that they get in such a pickle over questions like this.

If you read the bible without the teachings of the Watchtower then you will not be able to support the teachings of the Watchtower itself and this alone shows that their direction is guided by the Watchtower and NOT the bible as they state.

So, yes they are watchtowerites and they need our prayers.

Jesus said he would have a faithful and discreet slave to help his followers on the Earth. (Matt. 24:45). This slave is guided by Jehovah's holy spirit so that the TRUTH about God can be known throughout the earth. It is true that many people today read the Bible on their own but they don't have the proper understanding of the Bible which is why there are so many false teachings today. The Watchtower is and aid. Notice that in ANY Watchtower there are scriptures that support whatever is being said. You don't even have to read them from the New World Translation, the King James Version usually has a very similar rendering (although it may be difficult for you to understand since no one speaks in that old English), but nonetheless the Watchtower is just an aid. Notice what the Watchtower says "Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom" it is still directing people to Jehovah never to itself. Next time we come to your door you should listen to what we have to say, ask this question and I'm sure it will be answered. But always remember to listen to US, an actual Jehovah's Witness. Many people are easily misled about us because they listen to what other people have to say or their opinions, hear it directly from us and the Bible and you can't go wrong :)

Jehovah's Witnesses recognize one infallible means of knowing God's will: the Holy Scriptures.

This was proven again and again in communist lands. The authorities would intercept communication to Witnesses in their populations, and the authorities would actually counterfeit official doctrinal publications such as The Watchtower to insert unscriptural ideas which the communist governments preferred.

Even though they had no way of verifying the trickery, literally WITHOUT EXCEPTION there were no cases of Jehovah's Witnesses rejecting the bible in favor of The Watchtower in any matter. For decades this continued! When the available publications that made it through the Iron Curtain explained a matter FROM THE BIBLE, then the publication was used. When its message conflicted with the totality of the bible, it was rejected.

There are over six million Jehovah's Witnesses who go to their neighbors every month to TEACH them the bible; naturally that is the means also by which Witnesses LEARN.

Perhaps it is only after becoming a true student of the bible, as Jehovah's Witnesses are, that one can truly appreciate how the Word of God can "discern thoughts and intentions of the heart". Jehovah's people are not easily fooled by the counterfeit.

(Hebrews 4:12) For the word of God is alive and exerts power and is sharper than any two-edged sword and pierces even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of joints and their marrow, and is able to discern thoughts and intentions of the heart.

the answer is no. When I was there I noticed no one controling anyone, everyone makes their own chocies, however unlike others I have noticed in other circles (out in the christendom denominations) they make wiser choices,& after talking with my husband I have chosen to return after a two week leave onyl because I have learned more from the bible through them then the baptist church my DH goes to. Anyhow the WT had to have a name for legal purposes, the government said they had to file because the government thinks of them as another church(though not true) the litriture is biblical it uses scripture& very useful.
Look at the denominations out there that uses "Lifeway" resources for biblestudies or anyother resources, are oyu labeled being that group?
Certainly not! therefore we aren't watchtowerieties, we are Jehovah's Witnesses following the bible using study aides.

well, I don't understand why everyone picks on these people. they are never a threat to anyone. they seem very pleasant.
besides -----your quotes are very old,1939 & 1981. wow !
also, every organization now in the usa has to have an president or someone to look over the affairs. doesn't mean this person is GOD himself. this one makes sure of distibution of products or in this case---- literature.
try to get something differant and more up-to -date. maybe this will help you or better yet ,just talk to one and get the recent facts.

The Watchtower doesn't control anybody. It's a study aid, like 'Guideposts' or something similar that most other religions will use as a study aid.
