He might be ok, but why is it that you have no choice? Of course you do, here, this is how you do it....

"Why, I would LOVE to go to the fireworks but you see, my son is 5 months old, and I worry that along with hurting his hearing, what if it scares him so bad that he just cries the whole time and makes it miserable for everyone? I am more than willing to stay home and spend a nice night with my son. But thanks for asking."

See? That's all you have to do, unless of course it is you that wants to go to the fireworks. Advise on preparing a 5 month old for fireworks? There's no way. He will just know that it's loud and either it will scare him or not. It could be interesting.

I don't think your child is old enough to be scared by the fireworks either. My four kids weren't scared until they were maybe 2 or 3 years old. The noise might keep him up, though, so be prepared with his little toys, and some food/bottles, etc. Maybe a couple of new (cheap) toys will keep his attention long enough for you to have a great time yourself and still keep him entertained. The colors of the fireworks might possibly interest him, but that may be a long shot. Make sure you keep him away from any folks popping off their own fireworks/sparklers, and so forth. Happy Independence Day!

I have a three year old and a five month old, When our oldest was younger he was jumpy but was happy just sitting in my lap because of the loud sounds and bright colors..They do adjust to the sounds because everyone around us for weeks after were setting off fireworks and he slept right threw it.
We plan on doing the same thing with our five month old, because at his age he needs to get used to all sorts of sounds..and the latest was a dog barking which sent my little one into fits but he calmed down shortly after, I had to talk to him for a while to get him threw it.
Just keep in mind that ever thing that we are used to is new to them, so make sure you bring your patience with you when you do the firework scene.
Bring some toys and a favorite blanket, bottles, formula, diapers, wipes, baby food, what ever you would normally bring on an outing for your family and have fun.
Have a Wonderful 4Th of July.
and congrats on the baby.

Get some cute little ear muffs from a gymboree winter line. They can scare him and hurt his ears depending on the boom of the fireworks. His little eardrums are in the prime of developing at these ages and are not as strong as adults are. Especially since he won't be able to tell you his ears hurt.

Forth of july fireworks are always fun my husban workis at Rye Playland so we r going there for fireworks. I would say that if you are taking a little kid to fireworks you best off sitting far away from where they are shooting them because for a few years we got ashes all in our face and that wouldnt be fun to gety a mouth full of. Anyways that sounds like fun. Enjoy yourself!!

I was planning on going to a BBQ but it might be raining so I proably will be staying home and besides I am on a diet any way. So I will just watch tv and sit out on my patio if it is not raining too hard and watch for birds.

i would take a stroller that has something around it to keep the bugs off the baby, other than that i think if the fireworks are early enough the baby will enjoy them....if he/she isn't sleeping.

Just as long as you bring things to entertain him you should be fine. I basically bring a bag of everything he could possibly need, that way we don't have to leave. All the basics, toys, food, extra clothes, more toys, more food, pain medicine, nose sucker-outer-thingy, etc.

HAVE FUN!
