gender doesn't necessarily affect how the subject is learned. believe it or not, it's how you learn, and the teacher's method of getting the information across. if those two don't mesh then it'll be almost impossible to learn. if the teacher doesn't explain it in a way that you can understand it, then you aren't going to grasp the idea no matter how many times it's repeated.

This may be a tough question for me to answer. That's why I'm here! hehe a challenge....

Okay, I'll have to admit something here, it's kind of embarrassing, and it's a fault of mine. I'm a bit of a male chauvanist. I don't know why, my mom thinks it was the way I was raised. No, we didn't talk a lot about it, but the little time it was mentioned, that's the indication I got. I don't hate women, I love them, really. For some reason I just don't care for them in certain roles.

This is why I'm answering. I was lucky enough to get a guy teacher for Algebra when I was younger. I did like some of my women teachers, but mainly the ones that were kind and sweet. The ones that were authoritarian, I didn't care for that much. If I had had one such as that, I may not have even 'wanted' to catch on to Algebra. However, I was okay with the male teacher, and he was one of my favorite teachers.

Sorry about the long self-history; but this is at least one reason gender may effect teaching.

Male math teachers most of the time are not good at teaching. I don't know why but 4 out of the 5 math teachers I have had were female and they were good. But the guy he wanted to be our friend not teach us math.

I doesn't. I had women and men as teachers of maths and I always did good (in fact I am a teacher of maths now!).
The only important thing is how good they do their jobs, not their gender.

It doesn't but language does, News article I read yesterday says Chinese people and English speakers learn math in different areas of the brain. They use different areas of their brain while doing math
