If you have to borrow money, beg for others to pay, or skip paying for necessities or bills in order to pay for the wedding, you're spending too much.
More emphasis needs to be put into the marriage rather than just the wedding day. I've seen people go into debt to have the wedding of their dreams, and then they start married life in debt. That's not a good idea.

My husband and I had a wonderful wedding which cost us about $17,000. It was a blast, but I do regret spending that kind of money for just one day. (It was kind of an obligation thing-- and a Big Fat Greek Wedding to boot). It would have been cheaper to take close family and friends to the Bahamas and had an island wedding, or put one heck of a down payment on a house.
In the end, it really isn't the money you spend that makes a wedding great, it's the way people feel when they are there. That was the one thing that was consistently said at ours, that it was the best party they had ever been to. But it was because we had the final say on everything, right down the the song list. We took a year and a half and came up with a song list of 120 songs and we handed it to the DJ and told him to follow it.
Good Luck.

It all depends on you income {or your parents.} There are lots of way to save money but it does take a little more work. My daughter got married in Las Vegas and the package we pick out for was really great . It passed her approval and it had flowers ,music and the best vows that the minister pick out I have ever heard at a wedding. They got a dinner at a the best restaurant and a champagne breakfast in bed the next morning. We spent about a 1000 to 1500 for that. You can make your wedding a three ring circus that people will go wow or your can make it something really classy and not spend money on it that would feed a third world country. Just do what your heart and checkbook will allow and not have to pay for for the next several years, When I watch the Bridezilla show I just want slap some of those women.

Don't spend more than you can afford. There are many ways to save on a wedding. I am getting married myself and I have already set a dress budget, found a caterer that won't cost an arm or a leg per person ($2-$3 each), and decided to do my own invitations. I am thinking of using a student who is about to graduate with a Arts Degree specializing on Photography as my photographer so they can buildup his/her portfolio. My fiance is requesting a simple and inexpensive ring made out of Titanium. Since I have been going to the same church since I was 8, I am going to have it there and the Pastor will let me have my wedding there for free. What I am getting at is, use your instincts and your own good adive. Try places and people you know. Don't let wedding venders push you over. Its your money and your wedding, act like it.

Don't spend more than you can afford. You shouldn't have to take a loan out for a wedding. You can have a nice wedding without spending too much. I have heard of people spending $15,000-$20,000 on a wedding. I know I would rather use that money to go on a nice vacation or buy a house. I guess $5000 max.

It depends how much money you have, I am poor so anything more than £1000 would be too much for me! Set a budget and stick to it, don't get a loan or a credit card to pay for it, that will just cause trouble. The average cost of a wedding was quoted as £10-£12 thousand pounds, that's a lot of money.

I think anything more than $10,000 is too much. For the amount that some spend on their wedding you can buy a new car or even take that money and put it down on a house. We spent $6,500 and it was beautiful. We did a lot of stuff ourselves and with the help of friends and family, but it was a lot of fun.

Personally I think if you have to spend so much money that with tha money you can feed or help fight poverty in other countries or in your own too, that would be too much money spent ona wedding.
You dnt have to pay up the buck for a wedding to be nice. Its all in how and who you are too.
I knowing that there is much poverty and disadvantaged people in the world could not forgive myself if I spent more than $1000usd for a wedding though thta seems impossible here in usa, I managed to marry for a lot less and saved more money for what was to come later. Though I married 24yrs ago.

Anything more than $10,000. I personal think this is more than enough to spend. I think you should only spend $5000 to $7500 for a wedding. Don't take out loans, put it on credit cards or put your self in any more debt. Good Luck!
