Go with the energy star product because of credibility issues.

The energy star rating just means that the unit has been looked at and determined to meet some minimum efficiency requirements. If two units have the same Energy Efficiency Rating they should be really comparable on energy usage. Reliability is a whole separate issue. Go with a name brand that has a decent warranty.

Well, assuming your correct about the rating of the second unit, it should use pretty close to the same amount of energy. In other words, tha label has no effect on energy consumption, only documentation.
