My tortie cat, Missy, has really packed on the pounds since growing out of her kitten stage. She is 3 years and 3 months old. She was the skinniest thing as a kitten but seems unhealthily overweight now. She has an adopted 5 year old brother whose weight is just fine. They're indoor cats, eat the same "indoor formula" food and get regular shots. She's never had any disease or worms. They both seem to be equally active.

in my experience,i have found that tortoiseshell cats do tend to be fatter than other colours.i dont know if its in the genes but i have 7 cats and 2 of them are torti's. one is 9 and she is fat despite not eating very much compared to the others. my other torti is only young and has just been spayed so give it a year i bet she'll be fat as a house! i shouldnt worry to much unless she begins to suffer from it. maybe u could try feeding her a light diet? u can buy it from most pet shops.

Is she in the family way? If not my indoor male cat is the same, he was skinny as a kitten then got a bit chunky when he reached adulthood. Indoor cats need to be encouraged to play because if they get bored they want to eat more. I don't think it's a big problem unless the weight gain is at obesity stage.

Also do you supervise feeding time? Maybe she's eating the other cats food as well as her own.

Just feed her a little less but still at the same meal times.

Hi,
We also have two cats and one of them is also a totoise (Bo is her name). Although Bo is the more active cat, she is the heaviest of the two. We stopped varying the brands of food and they hardly get meat anymore. If you feed them in the morning, and their bowl still has food in it for the second feeding in the evening your giving too much. The bowl should be empty. Try and find a balance that you stick to. Cats love to draw attention and we humans like to reward it with food, Don't. Be disiplined. It works well for us now.
I hope this helps.
Bye!

LOL! This sounds like our two kitties! The oldest is 8, female, and fat. The younger is 5, male, and slim. The slimmer one eats twice a day, wet and dry food. The plumper eats only about half as much. I think it's genes and metabolism.

Is she spayed? Often that happens to females when they are spayed.
