My mom passed away when I was only six - the summer after kindergarten. And my father passed away when I was 18 - right after high school graduation. I'm 22 now.
I have to agree that my fondest memory was their unconditional love. Many people expect me to be bitter, or feel slighted. I actually believe that I was fortunate to have the time with my wonderful, loving parents - even if it was brief - than to have more time with some other 'parents'.
In my situation, I have found that my best memories are not vivid recollections of random events - but rather I remember FEELINGs best.
I've seen similar patterns in elderly people who are losing their memory. They may not recall every detail - but they always remember how someone made them feel. Memories may fade, but the impressions we leave on each other are far more lasting.

My Mother died of a long battle with cancer in 1993. And I have to tell she was a wonderful Mother . She had this streak in her that was like a kid sometimes. I remember were at a roadside park and having a great time and when we started back to she said lets skip . She told a hold of my hand and off we went to the car skipping like to young kids. Now She was in her 70's and I was in my 30's , that's not someting you see every day. She would play volley ball , have water balloon fights , dig in the dirt with her grands . And believe it or not she even helped my brother work on his 57 Chevy for drag racing while my other brother was in Vietnam. We were very close family and the glue that bound us was Mom.

I would have to say; "Holiday's and family Vacations", best describes my fondest memories, and many more.
Growing up as one of 5 kids, I was the 4th child. The humbling of our close niche' family always brought delightfulness into our home.
My mother was the flame, my father was the rock. They both kept the, "Home Fires Burning"

My dad passed away in 1989, I was in my late 30s and had my own family. My father was an alcoholic, and over the years we were not very close. However, I can remember being very small and my sister and I shared a bedroom that was right next to his(we were living with my grandparents) and every night we would say our prayers loud enough so he could hear them in his room and would end our day with him saying "I love you" and us both replying, "I love you too, Daddy". It still makes me feel good when I remember those nights.

There are so many memories and all of them good. My mother died before she was able to see her first great grandchild but she use to do a weird thing as a joke saying "Walk this way girls" and when my grand daughter was 5 she told me a dream she had and my mother was playing with her in this dream and said "Walk this way", I had never told her about what my mother use to say to my sister and I and when I heard the dream, I knew my mother came to visit her in her dreams. I felt a chill. but was very happy
