All dogs are descended genetically from wolves. It hard to believe that the little Yorkie is a distant cousin of the timber wolf but it's true.

Dogs are genetically derived from wolves, however the long process of domestication did produce actually changes in the genetics of domestic pets.

With some exceptions "dogs" (domesticated canines) tend to be smaller and less agressive. Domestication has genetically adapted dogs to be more responsive/conducive to human interaction.
