I don't believe the crime rate is higher. What I do believe, and know, is that the ARREST RATE is higher.

However, just because you are arrested does not mean you will be convicted. Also, the statistics vary for region to region. For example, the highest arrest rate here in Phoenix, Arizona is people of the Mexican ethniticity. Why, simple because of the higher percentage of Mexicans in the area.

I will say, however, that non-whites are arrested more frequently because they meet the imaginary "profile" of the criminal. Not fair, but true. It will take years of teaching our children not to be prejudiced to turn this kind of thinking around. I hope I live to see that, but I probably won't.

I think it is a load of crap.
I honestly believe that African Americans just make the news more, I also believe that crime is done by all humans no matter there color or race..Just some are more in the public eye than others.
If you only watch the areas where there is one race of course you will see crime and if you mix people up then you will see the same thing.
To much is put on what race people are...just look at the people who were in the public eye but were white. Perfect example the government and large companies that stole money and took a lot of people down with them just because they worked there.

i don't believe it, in my area, we have a lot of ethnic groups and by volume i suppose we have high rate of AA crimes, but go 30 miles north and you have a lot less AA population. if done by percentages i believe it comes out that the white race has a higher rate of population and crime. i suppose if you go to California then you may get a higher rate from the Spanish speaking population on both . i think your question is kind of racist and you probably live in a community where there is a lot of AA . try getting an open mind and thinking in a larger scale if America is divided and only those of a certain race could live in an area, i think the crime rate for each of these areas would be real close to the same, if all numbers equal in the population then i suppose they would in the type of crimes also. no coincidence -it should be in the numbers.

It wasn't always that way. Something changed a few decades ago and the strong, black family unit fell apart. I have a theory that once we got over our stupidity as a nation and began treating blacks as the humans that they'd always been, the younger age group had a new found freedom. Somehow that freedom shed the old ideas of respect, sense of community, etc. Unfortunately, that became the new lifestyle and it just continued to degenerate over time. Bill Cosby notices the change and speaks out about it. Poverty contributes to crime as much as a sense of not caring. Plus, it's demographics. There are a whole lot of reasons crime is higher in those communities.

This is a white world we live in and will probably never change. The media puts out this sort of publicity. Which in turn makes African Americans look bad. Actually if you look at the statistical reports on crime in America, you might be suprised.

Because they commit crimes. It is true, there are some police officers that partake in racial profiling, but the majority actually commit the crimes. But I also agree that the reason why they commit so many crimes is because of how they were raised and how they are portrayed on TV. In the movies and on TV they are portrayed as the bad guy, the gangster, the ghetto rapper. People relate to others who look more like themselves, so they grow up watching these programs thinking that they look like me, maybe that is how I am supposed to act, and then they follow in the footsteps. It's a never ending cycle.

It’s not just higher for African Americans; it is higher for all people living below the poverty line. They just don't break it down like that in the census data. We have made strides in breaking down racism by color of skin, although it hasn't gone away by any stretch of the imagination. Here in America we now have racism by economic class. The have nots don't see any way to get the things that they desire other than by breaking the law. Our supposedly equal education system has let them down by not giving them the opportunity to obtain skills that would provide a living wage. Our social services given by the government to assist those in need are a joke.
I don't know the answer but I can see the cause.

Easy - economic inequality.
Street crimes that put ppl in jail [robbery, etc] are committed by ppl in areas with lil money for food on tables - areas where black ppl live because they can't afford to live anywhere else. Not saying you're all poor, but if you can't afford a good education, you can't get a good job, you can't afford a good education ... Vicious cycle.
No coincidence - American legal system is designed [was from the start of the slave trade] to keep you coloureds down!

I'm not sure I believe they have a higher rate of criminals, so much as I tend to believe that they are arrested far more frequently. Also, the penalty for a black person is usually harsher than say, a white person, for the same crime.
There are definately more black people in prison than other races, but, again, I think it is because they are penalized more for the same type of crime.

Crime rates are higher in black populations in many parts of the world not only in USA. The facts for USA according to FBI records are as follows:
Americans as a whole are more violent than Europeans: twice as likely as Frenchmen to commit murder and more than five times as likely as Germans to commit robbery.

However, as is clear from the separate calculations for American Blacks and Whites, (done by the FBI themselves) it is the very high rates of violent crimes by Blacks - eight times as high as Whites for murder and more than ten times for robbery - that yield this result.

UK, France and Australia also have higher crime rates in their black populations.

It cannot be coincidence but must have reasons like discrimination, poverty, disrespect for the law etc.
