Rama was born in the city of Ayodhya, which is the capital of the ancient kingdom of Kosala. Astronomical data in the Ramayana has been interpreted to suggest that his birth would have been at approximately 7323 BC (in the very early Treta Yuga).

He was born on January 10, 5114 BC. This is based on tangible facts. Scholars have chosen the unusual combination of astronomy, Internet and literary texts to provide us this date. Maharishi Valmiki had described the planetary positions at the time of the birth of Lord Rama in his immortal epic Ramayana. After careful study and laborious calculations, back calculating computerized planetary positions, vis-à-vis zodiac constellations , formed at the time of Lord Rama's birth time, gave the date on which the exact birth moment matched. This date is 10.01.5114 BC. Not only this, the dates of all the important events happened in Ramayana have been found.
